The Bottom Line When you need a laugh try a bike tour. This was the most relaxing day of my tour.

Ok, forgive me if this review is not as much about Munich as it is about my day trip through Munich with Mike's Bike Tours. I had been through a lot of walking tours during the 12 day group tour I was on. I was ready to break out. To sweat. To ride.

A bike. 4 miles. 4 hours. 1 stop at a beer garden.

We met at Marienplatz under the tower of the Old Town Hall (Just look for a walking bridge & a strange sculpture hanging under it). Our guide explained the tour, that we would be stopping by some of the downtown Munich sites, riding through the English garden, drinking in the beer garden, and then getting on the bikes to ride some more.

Smart, Huh?

I was there for the bikes, not the beer (I am not a big beer drinker-- fortunately, the hall sold Applewein-- Apple Cider). I knew that when the guide suggested that we drink 5 big gulp sized beers, I was out of my league. He was kidding. I think?

The guide also asked for a volunteer in our group to be the last person on in the tour. The "Assman". Assman was responsible for making sure that nobody got lost on the tour & that he was the always the last man of our group.

Our "Assman" happened to be a kid from Wyoming who was going home to his folks the following day. We did not know that when Assman got to the beer garden & downed 2 dark beers. This did not seem to be much of a problem until our guide stopped in the English garden to give us a warning about some folks who frequent the upcoming nudist park ( This was after the warning that our guide gave us about how "You may think you are better riders after the beer garden-- you're not.").

As we started to move on, we noticed that Assman was still at our last stop (not yet at the nudist park). He was running around the park, completely nude, yelling "I AM ASSMAN".

Unfortunately, we were unable to completely capture Assman's attention for the rest of the tour, so he had to walk home from the park (he was accompanied). His bike was locked to a tree. Meanwhile, we continued our tour-- we saw the Munich surfers, the Residenz, etc.

If you are in Munich, and are looking for a fun, relaxing-- unusual-- tour of the city, try Mike's. One last thing, I know that Mikes web site (www.mikesbiketours.com) mention's that this tour is for all ages. I went with a very active 46 year old-- we both had a great time-- but agreed that is is more of a PG-13 kind of tour. The mean age range seemed to be 18-35.
