The Bottom Line n/a
* So somehow, this is already column #14...seems like yesterday I was starting these...thanks for the support guys, this column wouldn't continue if it didn't bring about so much reaction. Now, onto the news... * In an interview with the Metal-Sludge website, Tom Morello, better known as "the guitar guy from Rage Against the Machine," states that he "hates" the fact that the demos done with Chris Cornell were leaked online because "they sound nothing like the album." He also goes on to spout off a whole bunch of his usual left wing BS that quite frankly I'm tired of. Now, I don't mean to get off on a rant here (props to Dennis Miller), but this guy makes Ted Williams' son seem somewhat sane. Morello has no problem cashing in thanks to the huge corporate cash cow that is Sony Music, home of his label, Epic. But he says he hates the large corporations. He spouts off a ton of anti-American BS in his column. You know, maybe if he wasn't so damn concerned with how crappy America supposedly is (despite his large paychecks mind you), maybe, just MAYBE he could come up with a riff that wasn't already on one of those first 2 Rage albums. You're a one trick pony Tom, and not a very good one at that. You better hope Cornell saves that album, cause I already can tell you won't be...damn that felt good. By the way, the full interview is here:http://www.metal-sludge.com/20QuestionsMorello.htm * November 19th is looking to be a very good day for rock fans. First up, that's when Pearl Jam is going to put out their seventh studio album, the follow up to 2000's Binaural. Their website is also saying to look for some tour dates before 2002 is done. U2 will also release their second greatest hits collection, reportedly a 17 track set that will also have one new track on it. No word whether a B-sides disc will come out like last time, hopefully so. * Dumb statement of the year thus far: authorities were "looking into" how much of a role the fact that the pilot of the plane that crashed and killed Aaliyah had cocaine in his system. Um, hello? Am I the only one who thinks that makes NO sense? How about a pretty f*cking big role? * Buckcherry has split up...good riddance to your Black Crowes and Guns N' Roses wannabe asses boys. * Speaking of the Black Crowes, their live album actually has some decent cover art for once. Check it out here:http://www.theblackcrowes.nl/cdinfo.php?cd=tbclive * Apparently, the Chili Peppers weren't hot enough to take the top spot in their debut week, NOT a good sign if you ask me. Oh, the album will still sell a boatload, but I dunno if it has the commercial legs of Californication, which is a very GOOD thing. I still can't listen to Cali because of how much radio OVERplay it got. Speaking of the charts, the Bosstones set debuted at #131. Disappointing, sure, but considering their move to an indie and the inherent distribution problems with that, it's still pretty impressive. * Wait a minute, this just in: there has been an even MORE ridiculous statement than the previous Aaliyah one. This comes from Jermaine Jackson, brother of Jacko the Jackass: "Industry types, such as Russell Simmons and Ricky Martin ... [are] uninformed and should wait to hear the facts before making derisive statements about Michael," the statement read. "Comedians Dennis Miller and Robin Williams and others who bad-mouth and make comedic references to the scandalous [child molestation] allegations that he faced several years [ago] need to be reminded that not only was Michael not convicted of any crime, he was never charged nor was he ever indicted. Any statements to the contrary are libelous and subject to legal action." Well you know what Jermaine? You don't pay someone 25 million bucks if you're innocent. As far as Dennis Miller and Robin Williams making fun of his race, well you know what, it's TRUE. And Russell Simmons hit the nail on the head when he said that you don't need $30 million promotional pushes to make an album a hit...if it's a hit record, it's a hit record. * Do you think that maybe since now I work for a company which Brad Whitford is a part owner in, I could convince him to kick Steven Tyler's a*s for releasing garbage like Girls of Summer instead of some good ole bluesy rock and roll? * Apparently, Pino Pellegrino, AKA the late great John Entwistle's replacement for the Who tour, has done a fine and adequate and most importantly, RESPECTFUL, job. He hasn't tried to hog the spotlight, and it took Pete Townshend himself to get him to loosen up on opening night. * I wish Sheryl Crow would do something other than Soak Up the Sun because JESUS that song is getting on my nerves with each additional time I hear it. * I really hope that Jerry Cantrell is just thinking about record sales when he agrees to open up first for Nickelback and then for Creed. * I'm looking at AOL, and I see that I can "watch Moby's new video before it hits MTV." Sorry Moby, your album bombed, just as it should have. No amount of commercials and promotion will bring it back. You know why? BECAUSE YOU SUCK! * That's it for now, I'll be back in another 2-3 weeks, although probably with not quite as much vitriol as this one had. |
