The Bottom Line Take the opportunity to meet fellow Epinions writers anytime you can

A month or so ago Epinions member Bryan_Carey sent me an email inviting me to the unofficial Southwestern Ohio Epinions meeting. Always up for meeting my fellow writers, I quickly responded and asked him to include SurgRN911, my roommate, cause I think she needs to meet these people as well.

Surg has been to several other meetings, myself, only 3, well 1 & 2 halves, but who's counting? Two years ago February I was in Florida and ran across Surg ( ½ meeting) who was working only 1 hour away from my brothers house. Shortly after that I went to NY and met 20+ members at a function hosted by ACDC711 & Remind1. The other ½ meeting was when I treated Surg to a
surprise visit to her brother, Gungian, for her birthday.

Unofficially, 3 meetings in my book.

I knew Bryan lived close by, only 45 minutes from where I live, but who makes that first push for a meeting? Not me, I'm a shy sort (you can stop laughing now damnitall).

Saturday, July 27th, finally arrived. A bright, clear day. I had to work in the AM and we had been to Surg's other brothers house the night before for dinner in Cincinnati. Actually close to where the majority of the other people attending the meeting lived, but silly me, I had to be back in town
for work. Damn work ethics!

Hopped in the buggy for the 1 hour drive to the Thirsty Dog Tavern in Washington Township, Ohio. Our scheduled meeting was 7 PM and we are always early (at least Diane is and since she was driving .. ), however, this time we were late - my fault - sigh. We tumbled out of the van with our gifts in hand. I had been shopping at CafePress.com for some "Hi, nice to meet ya" Epinions gifts - frisbees - all around acceptable gift since there would be parents there as well as we degenerate types. Rumors also were flying that some unsuspecting members would possibly bring along children - what were they thinking? Hadn't they read my stuff, let alone dedem? Poor children, therapy sessions are so expensive.

Members present were: Bryan_Carey, dedemw, jay1051971 & his Epinions widow Heather, cjsmommy, SurgRN911 & myself. Curiously missing was erin5oaks, who had promised to be there. Perhaps she showed up, saw the ensemble, and ran for her life.

We had a ½ hour wait or so for our table, plus we were waiting for erin5oaks & dedemw to show up. There had been threats that dede would be in spandex and sparkles. Instead she was in shorts like most of us but we recognized her right away. Sweet cjsmommy had her baby girl with her because of feeding schedules, and she held up to our bantering quite well. Bryan we recognized from his picture and he really is just as smart as he writes. In addition, Bryan has his own ‘personal' mug in storage at the Thirsty Dog, which he promptly requested and filled immediately.

It was a full service brewery pub with complete menu. Surg, Jay & I settled on burgers & fries, Heather the Epinions widow, on a nice steak, cjs on a huge salad. Dedemw & Bryan refrained from eating. Bryan because he had gorged at his parents prior to the meeting, dede because of a recent operation. Of course, before the evening was over, they did order some casadas. Bryan, I think, was more interested in sampling the various flavors of brew available.

As usual, a lot of talk about Epinions and the writers we admired and questions about ratings and payment schedules. All in all, I think it was a really nice meeting and I enjoyed talking to other people with a similar addiction - Epinions. Heather doesn't understand it (hey, but then, she's never been bitten by the bug).

Sorry you all couldn't make it and I swear we didn't say a word about you - grin.

Thanks,
Susi
