| snowflake224's Full Review: Dawn Direct Foam Dishwashing Detergent |
After seeing the commercials, I took advantage of a whizzbang sale on Dawn Direct Foam. I paid $2.49 for the pump and $2.99 for refills. I have now had this product in my home for several months.
Product Details:
Purpose:
Dawn Direct Foam is a new kind of soap advertised to be ten times better at removing grease from your dishes, while using less water than normal dish soaps.
Appearance:
The soap comes in a yellow, green, or blue bottle depending on the scent. I have Fresh Rapids, which comes in blue. Green is Lime and yellow is citrus. The bottle has a fill to line incase you are adding a refill to the bottle. The bottle has a white pump to activate the foam. The pump can be turned one way to open and the other way to close and secure the bottle. The soap comes out clear and foamy, if left to settle it looks like normal dish soap.
Directions:
Dawn Foam is used by first dampening the kitchen sink sponge. Next, place one pump of Dawn Foam onto the sponge and squeeze to activate the foam. Now scrub each dish using only a small amount of water. Occasionally squeeze the sponge. Rinse as normal. Viola. Please read all warnings prior to use.
Things to Know:
Negative results will occur if Dawn Foam is used the wrong way. Dawn Foam is designed for use with a small amount of water. Therefore, pumping Dawn Foam into the sink will deactivate the foam. Also, washing dishes directly under faucet or with a significant amount of water will lead to dissatisfaction.

Experience:
I do all my dishes by hand as we do not own a dishwasher. In other words, I am the dishwasher. We have had the Dawn Direct Foam in our home for several months now.
I tried to go back to other dish detergents because Dawn Direct Foam can get expensive. The good thing is once you have a pump, you are set. The bad news is refill without a sale can cost $4.99 to $5.99 a bottle.
I most recently bought Palmolive in the mildest scent I could find. Unfortunately, I could not stand the scent of wild berry blossoms that the Palmolive left on my dishes. So back to the store it was to buy a refill for my Dawn Pump. I filled the Pump with Fresh Rapids. The scent is barely existent. Infact, the smell is so mild that I do not notice it while cleaning or on my dishes after cleaning. However, Dawn Direct Foam does remove the scent of lasagna and other food creations.
Dawn Direct Foam allows for continual foaming on the sponge. Getting my dishes clean and leaving the dirt behind. For example, yesterday we made a greasy meal of hamburger and fries. I started to use the Palmolive to clean it, but that soap just made my dishes and hands feel more greasy. Dawn Direct Foam worked like a charm; making the greasy feeling disappear and leaving my dishes so shiny I could almost see my reflection in them.
Recommendation:
Things that might deter you:
- Dawn is pricey compared to other dish detergents.
- You do not get as much detergent as you do with other dish soaps.
- Dawn recommends cleaning with the least amount of water possible, which seems unnatural.
The Truth:
I will admit, usually when I see that a product is smaller ounce-wise, I will think I am getting ripped off. Dawn does have less than other dish soaps, but one pump gets the entire sink of dishes clean and each bottle has 250 pumps. Meaning it will last longer than other dish soaps. And if that is not enough for you to consider it after seeing the higher price, consider how much you will save using less hot water in your home.
Also, it may seem unnatural to use minimal water during cleaning, but that is only because over the years all the other dish soaps have convinced you that a sink of water is necessary. Dawn Direct Foam uses little water, and gets the job done better than its competitors.
