The Bottom Line Whether it be a comedy, a drama, or a tear-jerker that gets you going, it's your movie. Maybe one of my top 10 will be on your list.

This is almost an impossible task. It's like trying to name your one favorite musicians. Movies are outlets of expression for many people. Not only does the content of a movie allow the viewing audience a chance to express what agitates them or makes them unhappy, but it also allows the people involved in the movie to express a point or view they want to get across. A movie is a very powerful platform. It can make you feel upset, saddened, justified, immoral, powerful, and afraid. I could go on, but I'll spare you. I don't have my favorites listed by category and chronological order. Whenever I watch a movie, if it moves me in some way, it belongs on my top 10 list.

The best movies I have seen have all stirred a particular emotion in me that makes me want to change myself or the world around me. It makes me re-evaluate things in my life. Watching a good movie at home on a Friday night is a much better substitute than a bad date. By the way, who is "Oscar" and why does he give awards to movies that most of us have never even heard of. I don't believe the critics represent the majority, and the only opinion that I stand behind is my own.

My personal top ten movies are as follows:

10. Higher Learning. True-grit drama of racial tension and differences. Based at a fictional college campus, it really hits home on how real life really is.

9. Disney's Alladin. Everyone is a kid-at-heart. This movie allows you to explore your wildest G-rated fantasies. Robin Williams (as "Genie") makes this movie along with a fun soundtrack. I could also say The Dark Crystal. It put the fear of God in me the first time I saw it (I was very young).

8. My Fair Lady. Audrey Hepburn at her finest. She is a beautiful woman that plays a homely peasant woman that becomes a beautiful woman. I could also put Breakfast at Tiffany's in this place.

7. Basketball Diaries. For those suburban kids that didn't know life on the street isn't always for the minority groups. This movie is quite depressing, but it sure makes you think.

6. A Clockwork Orange. Whatever Stanley Kubrick had in mind when he made this movie was altered by hallucinogenic drugs. The rape scene is particularly upsetting, but a proper revenge, and might I say a good suggestion for our current times, happens in the end.

5. A Fish Called Wanda. Who else but Kevin Kline can go to a foreign country and insult/harass the local people for their standard practices?

4. In The Name Of The Father. If you're Irish, like me, this will pick a chord with you. If you're not Irish, it will still move you due to the loyalty of family. Daniel Day-Lewis and Pete Posthlethwaite are brilliant together.
You might want to have a pot of coffee brewing. This movie is 133 minutes long.
I could also put Last of the Mohicans here.

3. Forrest Gump. This movie involves a lot of historical events and landmarks, especially if you have visited Savannah, GA where it was filmed. It was written and directed beautifully and the acting by Tom Hanks was very believable.

2. Terms of Endearment. I guess this would be one of those classic "chick-flicks." You definitely need to have a box of Kleenex nearby. The bond between a mother and daughter is stronger than ever in this movie.

And finally, the one you've been looking forward to:

1. Rush. It's not a big award winner. It doesn't even have really big names in the lead parts. It takes place in the mid to late 70's about NARCS and has some of the best classic rock playing throughout the entire movie. The storyline, the music, the characters, the cameo appearances (I'm not going to tell you who) and some very quotable lines make this movie a repeat feature in my VCR.
