| staitz's Full Review: Hughes Networks D1131 Single LNB DIRECTV System |
I purchased my direct TV over the internet at http://www.i-want-my-free-dish.com/dirtvdsssatt.html. It offers free hardware plus installation kit and $14.00 postage. It was delivered to my door 5 days later. I had the problem of living in a condo that does not allow one to attach a dish to the roof or sides of building it has to put on a pole in ones yard. I achieved this by purchasing a 10 foot pole from Home Depot $20.00 4 bags of cement $8.00 and a couple of u braces $3.00 and plastic pipe to put in the cement and to insert the pipe later when the cement had been set and some plumbing metal bracing for added stability using a fence as a anchor. I dug a hole about a foot deep and raised the cement another foot with the plastic pole in place using a spirit level to make sure it was exactly 90 degrees.I was fortunate that I had a clear view of the Southern sky where the Satellite is. Make sure you have a clear view or all your work will be in vain.Let the cement cure for a week. Attached the Dish to the pole and did the wiring. A great feature of the Hughes receiver is that it allows one to test the strengh of the signal once you have picked up a strong signal (above seventy) tighten bolts and braces.
Phone Direct TV and activate and away you go ,great picture and mindblowing sound.
I used some of my original cabling to run to other TV sets and it was not RG6 and it worked fine. This was great as the wiring to other rooms would have been a mission.
Picture was great and the 20 dollar package suits me just fine. The hughes has input for your own aerial what a win.
All in all a great experience and one that differed a lot from the cable companies with their attitude. One thing if you are on a budget don't be suckered into purchasing a more expensive package when you call to be connected they try hook you up with all extra's. Stick to your guns if you only want the 20 dollar a month package tell them and say no extra's if they cost extra dollars.
Good luck!
Update:
I have had this system for just under a year now I see that DTV does not offer the $21.00 package any more so I will see if they force me to upgrade. So far this has been real good value and no problems except when there is a real bad storm but maybe 5 times the whole year when the earth is really shaking for an hour or two. Billing no problems a hassle free system.
