A Review of iHateSpam
by gsearle | Aug 06 '02
iHateSpam is a very transparent and easy to use - yet powerful - spam filter that keeps the unwanted e-mail out of your hair.

Excellent Product, Great Price! (Reply to this comment)

Excellent Spam filter program. I especially loved the "bounced message" reply feature to the spammers. However, I no longer use it, as I found Audiotrieve's Inboxer, which uses Bayesian statistical analysis and learning, to be far superior at properly detecting and filtering spam.

I am a novice at operating this software. I got it for free after a rebate - which was the only reason I got the software. I have been using it for about 3 months now and have these observations.

I still get spam through. It is not as bad as it was, but some leaks through and I delete it. The software allows you to bounce an email. This feature does not work for Hotmail or Yahoo addresses.

It allows you to add target words or phrases in text or subject. This works only if you get the spelling and capitalization right. Spammers are quick to mispell V1AGRA or other words.

All of my spammed mail that is caught goes directly to my delete file (I use Outlook Express). I can then review it to see if it really is spam.

Overall, it is about 75% effective. If there is a better software out there, I do not know where it is, although I got a spam today for a spamkilling software. (It was sent to the deleted file by my software).

I've been experimenting with Matador and have found it to be a very unstable and ineffective SPAM application. Upon digging around for more unbiased feed back about SPAM apps, I happened to come across your review.

Your comments and insights prove very helpful and are consistent with other tech magazine reviews albeit much more detailed.

I plan on downloading the latest eval copy and most likely purchasing this product for at least two of my 5 household computers. Thanks again for the great review and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comments! I'll put the price in there (oops).

Also, Cloudmark SpamNet can have trouble with firewalls. IHateSpam does not open a special port for its learning capabilities, so it is compatible with most firewalls.

Great review. Checking the Sunbelt website, I got this: Best of all, the limited time Intro Offer is just $19.95 (Normal List price is $29.95) with online delivery of full product and a 30-day money back guarantee. This is a real no-brainer.

Terrific review. I haven't gotten annoyed enough by spam to pay money for anti-spam software, but I am close, maybe I should try this.

Have you heard of Cloudmark Spamnet? Only available for Outlook so far, but it looks promising, kind of works like Google, but instead of hits moving a web site up in the Google search ranking, as more people block spam it gets added to the list of spam on the Cloudmark server.
