How's it going? I'm just as surprised by anyone by how disappointing Good Year is, because usually the Crowe is a pretty reliable detector of good material. Reports are when Ridley Scott and Crowe made Gladiator, they didn't have a finished script and that turned out more than fine. This movie feels, despite the source material, that again there wasn't a finished script and they made all the wrong choices. But there is hope that American Gangster with Crowe, Denzel Washington and Scott at the helm will be the turnaround Crowe needs. He's still got some memorable roles left in him, if he can get the lousy public image from derailing his career any further. Thanks for reading and taking the time to respond! See you at Tom Cruise's wedding this weekend! Always,
Marcelo

A Good Year is a dud! It flopped miserably its first weekend, and truth be told was generating bad buzz since it premiered at Toronto I think. THis is definitely Russell's poorest movie since Proof of Life, and this is from someone who loves Russell Crowe unconditionally. Only see it if someone else pays for it. Thanks for reading and writing! Always,
Maximus

Russell Crowe begins to look like one of those actors whose career has gone terribly wrong.
Excellent review.

Urgh.. (Reply to this comment)

Now I am disappointed. I like Russell Crowe in pretty much anything.. especially when he is shirtless. This sounds like a dud, and reminds me of the feelings I had when I went to see 'A Lady in the Water.'

Drop whatever is your doing right now and go watch The Departed. Then afterwards cancel your evening appointments and watch it again. Jodie is nowhere to be found, but Jack Nicholson and Marky Mark Wahlberg surely are. Feel those vibrations.
I actually have no interest in seeing the new Bond but will because I have a crush on Eva Green and The Dreamers made me an incorrigible, deviated prevert.
Have a nice one! Always,

I think Jodie Foster ruined 'Lambs' for me the most. Hopkins was fine. Nope, no need to reexamine my conscience on that one anymore ;)
I still haven't seen 'The Departed' mainly bec. of Scorsese and DiCaprio (disappointed with 'Aviator' and 'Gangs of NY') and Denzel never floated my boat, even if I liked 'Inside Man' - because of Clive Owen!
But, hey, yeah, viva Eva Green in the new Bond! She's one of the more striking Bond women yet, so nice to match with D Craig!

Heey, what's up. Okay, now that GOOD YEAR kicked the bucket box office wise, there's still hope. Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe are teaming up again for American Gangster with Denzel Washington, and Denzel Washington movies not directed by Tony Scott turn out to be pretty good. So you never know. What Russell needs to do is shoot a movie with Dicaprio and Scorsese. That would be sweet. It could be called Gangs of Melbourne or something.
I can't believe you liked Hannibal more than Lambs!
As for homewrecker Abbie Cornish, she's supposed to be pretty good in this indie she shot with Heath "Joker" Ledger called Candy. Maybe she can send some roses and chocolates and an apology to Reese Witherspoon. Was her character really Finney's daughter? That wasn't made very clear in the movie. By the way, that scene where Tom Hollander rubs ice on her sunburned back, while visually quite lovely, like a lot of scenes in A GOOD YEAR goes nowhere.
Anyway, thanks for reading and writing, and examine your conscious apropos Silence of the Lambs! By the way, you didn't like Red Dragon more than it also, did you? Could you?! Have a great one, and viva Eva Green in the new Bond! Always,
Marcelo

Funny, but I liked 'Hannibal' much more than 'Silence of the Lambs', but I'm one of perhaps three people on earth who do so.
Do agree with you almost entirely about this one, although I thought Cornish was probably acting in a different film altogether - as were Finney and Highmore - and I did like her bit more than you did.
Great review, as always!
