I was booking a flight for a business trip that in Washington D.C. about month ago. Typically, I use Expedia, but Expedia indicated that the hotels I wanted to stay in were unavailable. Travelocity indicated that they had availability. So I booked it through Travelocity (MISTAKE #1). The room I selected was marked "ValueRate", which I thought was a comment on the price of the room. Instead, it turns out that ValueRate is some business partner of Travelocity that forces you to prepay for the rooms you reserve. I prepaid for the room (MISTAKE #2) and printed out my confirmation number. All seemed fine.
The trouble started when I showed up at the hotel where I had my "reservation." The response I received was, "we've never heard of you." I showed them my confirmation number. Their response: "this confirmation number has too many digits and starts with the wrong number." It turns out that the hotel was booked solid, and they were only able to accomodate me for one day (to keep me from sleeping on the sidewalk in front, I guess). After that... well... I had to make last minute reservations... in a busy city... with no access to a phone... during a convention...
Once I was able to find a hotel and get access to a phone, I naturally called Travelocity to vent my hatred/anger/frustration. They flatly refused to help me, as they said that I would have to call the partner that I made the reservation through (I thought I made the reservation through Travelocity... after all, their name was on the website I went to.) This partner is apparently open only during "banker's hours" and I was literally unable to get through to them. I called Travelocity again and waited an hour on hold. I hung up and called back. Travelocity *recommended* that I dispute the credit card charges when they appear on my bill!!!! Can you believe that! I disputed the charges, and got my 1400 dollars back, but I still can't say "Travelocity" without getting a bad taste in my mouth.
