Life is BeautifulAug 13 '02 (Updated Sep 11 '02) Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Life is Beautiful, Gladiator, Matrix, The Sound of Music, The Shawshank Redemption, Rear Window, Cast Away, Braveheart, Roman Holiday, The Rock Life is Beautiful This is at the top of my list because of Roberto Begnini's wonderful performance. The movie is both very emotional and funny. He shows us his undying love for his son and what he will do to have him survive. I do not speak the Italian language yet it is wonderful to listen to and this movie needs to be watched with subtitles. The music is phenomenal, just that music alone makes me have tears in my eyes. I would like to mention that my friend Roberto won two Academy Awards for best Foreign Movie and Best Actor. It is a very original idea that takes place in the war camps where he makes us laugh and cry. Gladiator How could you not love this movie? It's one of those movies where once you're done with it you want to go outside and battle your brother in a Gladiator match. A hero movie, good versus evil. Full of action and wonderful battle scenes and a great soundtrack that I believe can make or break a movie. It is also a great story, a man lost in the middle nowhere battles his way to Rome and against all odds battles against the emperor. Great acting, great directing great everything! The Matrix 4 academy awards, all in the special effects category. The Academy realized how great this movie was, they knew they could not give it higher recognition, such as Best picture etc, so they rewarded it with all that it was nominated for. Also a great story, that after wards makes you wonder about the world and also makes you want to become Neo. The fighting scenes are probably the best I have ever seen, the bullets, the slow motion a wonderful treat. All you see now is movies trying to copy what the Matrix did. (The Art of War, Romeo must Die, XXX I could go on.) If there is one sequel I am looking forward to the most, it's The Matrix Reloaded, May 15. The Sound of Music The first time I saw this movie I believe I was 5. I still know all the songs by heart 15 years later. In fact I just saw a couple of weeks ago and had a great time watching and singing along. A great story of a woman who changes the lives of a family and in the end music saves their life. A movie set during World War II that shows the courage and downfall (Ralf) of the Austrian people. The last time they sing Adel Veis will forever be stuck in my mind. The Shawshank Redemption What can I say about this movie. A triumph in movie making. A movie that shows if you have hope, it can save you no matter what. Also a movie that shows great wits and a super twist at the end. It has your attention the whole movie and you cannot wait until the end to see what is going to happen. Probably one of the greatest ending ever. Because of that ending I now want to live my life on a beach fixing boats. Rear Window I don't think everyone would love this movie, but I did. I love watching other people do there thing. This movie is exactly that, it takes place in a single room and has you looking through other windows to see what people are doing. A great mystery, James Stewart is great and Grace Kelly is charming. It has you guessing and guessing on what is happening across the window. Hitchcock at his best. Cast Away Probably the greatest acting performance I have ever seen. Tom Hanks is unbelievable, he is alone in front of the camera for nearly an hour and a half. He has your attention the whole movie, and it shows you that in order to survive you don't need pagers, cell phones and all those other "useless" items. He shows you how he eats, makes fire and basically lives. When someone is able to make you cry for a volleyball it must mean something! Braveheart "You can take our land, but not our freedom!" This is what I yelled one day during a massive snow ball fight my friends and I had. My team rallied and I had goosebumps. That is what Mel Gibson made me feel, a super movie of courage. That's it, just a wonderful movie of courage and the love of your homeland. A great story, great battle scenes and wonderful directing. It shows you the coldblooded fights they had in those days and what people were willing to do in order to protect their land. Roman Holiday A great love story. Audrey Hepburn is wonderful, as is Gregory Peck. A simple of movie of how two completely different people fall in love with each other. What they both have to go through and how Rome is just a city of love and happiness. When it comes to it what will they do? Will they stay together or will they live happily ever after. One of the simplest and wonderful love stories I have ever seen. The Rock How could you not love this movie? James Bond comes back and kicks everyone's a**. A great hijacking movie, great action sequences. For once the reasons for holding hostages is not for "domination of the World" but for the mistreated families and soldiers that suffered during the Vietnam war. Sean Connery does it all, Ed Harris is a great villain (or is he) and Nick Cage provides great action himself. Overall a great action flick. |
