I originally planned on doing a giant piece about what I feel is wrong with this site and why I am, in fact, done with the site for the indefinite future. But you know what? I really don't care enough to do that. I will, however, give you a briefer, just so you're in the know... I don't care anymore And that's a fact. Perhaps it really was the loss of the money that has caused so many people to stop writing and now I can understand why. To become popular on this site, you have do all of this crazy networking, read, rate and comment on things that you just don't care AT ALL about just to get your name out there more. What for?? To have more people trust you? It's nice to know that people trust your writing but in the end, and let's be honest here folks, this is not an important site, it doesn't matter. I like for people to be informed about things that I either want them to buy or to avoid but if I don't do all of that needless networking, they won't even find me. Why should I have to waste my time reading reviews on things that I just don't give a damn about? Once, when there was at least a little money to be had, there was more of a push to do that, but now, there's nothing. There's rubber stamping. You know what that is, it's when you don't even read the review, you just see what the majority of the other people thought of it and go with the crowd. I'll admit I've done that a lot and you have to too, don't try to deny it. That's not fair to the writer and it's not fair to me, I've got better things to do. It still has some good stuff probably... ...but it's just not for me. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who write CD reviews for black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth and also love to check out reviews on Britax Child Car Seats if for no other reason than to broaden their horizons. I'm not one of those people. I still like to write, but I would also like people to read what I write when that is the sole intention. And let's face it, that's THE MAIN REASON FOR THIS SITE'S EXISTENCE! At least, that was what was supposed to be the reason. "Make more informed buying decisions" or whatever the homepage for this site says. That's fine but, at least for this writer, that's just not happening. I'd also like to have fun with the site. This isn't a job so it shouldn't feel like one. It does for me, even writing this, so I apologize if I come off sounding like a spoiled child who got his sandbox privledges taken away, that wasn't the intention. Like I said in a previous article: "you'll know when it's time to go". For me, I think it's well past time to go... ...and that's the answer...  |
