It's funny that I stumbled on this review.... (Reply to this comment)
by antybean
because I've been thinking of writing about my recent fiasco with my jeweler. I wasn't sure where to put it and didn't want it to be off topic.
The short of it is - my jeweler damaged my custom-made wedding band when I brought it in for inspection in October, 2002. In fact, the original is now gone - it's been 9 months and they have been unable to reproduce it to my satisfaction. I've been without it longer than I actually wore it (we recently had our 1st anniversary).
Anyway, great review - people really should learn as much as they can before making this kind of purchase. No one should have to endure these types of bad experiences.

There was an enormous discussion on one of the sites I visit regularly regarding skepticism about the real value (monetary and cultural) of diamonds, and what should be considered when buying one.
I think that anyone looking to justify a diamond purchase or get more advanced information beyond the four C's about how to purchase them should take a look here:

I am a manager of a jewelry store that is part of the largest jewelry corporation in the world. This is great advice for anyone interested in buying a diamond. Information is key to finding a good diamond. Do your homework and set a realistic budget.

I know! I thought that it was odd that they couldn't tell the difference either. My band is not small either (so in a way thank god it isn't platinum right?!).
Thanks for the congrats. Your ring sounds just lovely.

yow! Seriously, Platinum is significantly heavier...can't imagine they couldn't tell (hubby's band is platinum BTW).
Anyway, great guide to finding a jeweler. I got married last year. My particular ring was an antique with stones cut around or before 1900 and the setting from about 1940. My hubby's grandmother gave it to us for the event. It's unique and lovely, and since it needed refurbished BADLY we sought out a jeweler. We found a lovely one that made it look like new, matched a diamond, etc...
Congrats to you, also!
Shelly.

on your engagement.
We got royally you-know-what with my engagement ring (about 11 years ago). However, since I don't plan on selling it any time soon, I just didn't worry about it.

Wonderful review! (Reply to this comment)

I've heard folks say that it isn't important, it's just a symbol.. it's the marriage and love that counts...
My response is: Yes, that's true.. BUT, you will have to wear this piece of jewelry for the rest of your life..... (one hopes, anyway.. grin)
