The Bottom Line Yeh, yeh. Every one's a critic.

Let's see....I was born in 1966 so theoretically, I wasn't old enough to appreciate any of these movies. It's true that I didn't see most of these films until the 80's. That's okay because it proves that they're timeless.

10. Animal House (1978)
John Belushi smashing beer cans against his head. Little Kevin Bacon getting spanked and sputtering, Thank you sir! May I have another?. This is the movie that set the standards for future College-party movies.

9. Carrie (1976)
I LOVED Sissy Spacek in this movie. She was sweet, vulnerable, and one kick-*ss scary chick! I still haven't forgiven Amy Irving for torturing Sissy's character but that's okay because revenge occurs in the next installment.

8. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
Doesn't seem like my kind of movie, does it? Well, it is. I think it's actually the first movie I ever saw on Beta *gasp*. Every time I watch this, I pick up on something that I never noticed before. Jack Nicholson was a work of understated brilliance. I can't imagine anyone else playing McMurphy.

7. The Godfather, Part II (1974)
Every one knows that sequels usually suck. Part II of The Godfather is probably one of the few exceptions to the rule. The movie, which followed the same great formula as the first, had a star-packed roster including Robert De Nero, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall and the late great John Cazale.

6. The Exorcist (1973)
Me liking this movie is actually a dig at the Catholic church :). Linda Blair is damn scary. The movie is damn scary. I NEVER watch this alone. Ellen Burstyn is perfect as the neurotic mother. People who think that they can make a scarier movie than The Exorcist are wrong, wrong, wrong.

5. Breaking Away (1979)
You wouldn't expect me not to include an Indiana related movie in my top 10, would you? With a group of up and coming actors (notably, Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern), a solid story line (poor boy makes good), and humor sprinkled throughout some of the coming of age plot, there was no way that this wouldn't score big with audiences.

4. Charlotte's Web (1973)
I still cry when I see this movie. The animation seems very prehistoric when you compare it to the modern works of Disney and Pixar. Paul Lynde's characterization of the rat, Templeton ended up being his best performance ever. Henry Gibson (Wilbur the Pig) and Debbie Reynolds (Charlotte the Spider) did a great job of translating characters from a book to animals we loved on screen. (yes, I know that a spider isn't REALLY an animal but you know what I mean.)

3. The Godfather (1972)
Before Star Wars, before Die Hard, and before Lethal Weapon, Francis Ford Coppola brought us a blockbuster entity based upon the writings of Mario Puzo. A movie about a mafia boss and his family/associates. Who knew that a story like this could capture the interest of millions? The genius of the story is that it takes every day concepts (relationships and the complications of them) and turns them into poignant moments that are sustained through out the entire film. It's no wonder that we wanted to see more of this family.

2. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Gene Wilder is perfect as the grown up kid inside all of us. Peter Ostrum captures the wonderment of hope and desire...attributes we should never let go of. Songs like Oompa Loompa and Pure Imagination were the icy on the cake. No other non-animated children's movie has touched me as much as this movie did.

1. Love Story (1970)
I don't care how old this movie is, it still holds up as the tear jerker that was made over 32 years ago. Never again will we see the innocense like we see with Ryan O'Neal and Ali McGraw. Love means never having to say you're sorry. I still sob like a blubbering idiot when she dies. And by the way, Oliver's Story was a travesty. You don't EVER get over losing your one true love hmph.

Honorable Mention
Sounder (1972)
American Graffiti (1973)
The Way We Were (1973)
Oh God (1977)
Grease (1978)
