I received a Rival Electric Ice Cream Maker, model 8605, 6 qt. capacity for Father's Day. I had been wanting a maker for several years and was excited to receive this. I had used handcrank ones before was having an electric one was nice. My first recipe came from the booklet that came with the machine, Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream. The ingredients were costly, eggs, whipping cream, 7 cups of milk, etc. You cook this until thick then refrigerate 2 hours, and more ingredients then freeze in maker. It was pretty simple to assemble the can, dasher, cover and attach motor. The instructions say to use fine ice for best results. I tried crushing ice cubes in blender, gave up and just added ice cubes without chopping them finer. Less than 20 minutes later, the motor stopped. I thought it was hung up, but no, it was finished already. Nice texture. The booklet says ice cream should freeze between 20-40 minutes. It recommends you allow to harden for 2-3 hours, but it wasn't necessary. I ate it after the 20 minutes. The booklet is full of recipes, even lower-fat ones,yogurt, ice milk and strawberry ice. Clean up is easy, but don't put in dishwasher. Hot, soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly the can. The bucket should be washed to remove salt residue. I thought the machine was fairly quiet. The only thing I am not crazy about is the 6 qt. capacity. Think I would have used a small qt. size more often.
