Extended stays made bearable!

Written: Jun 23 '01
Pros:Lots of space, friendly staff
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Space, service, facilities - gives it a 5 star rating from our family!

When my company first offered me a promotion which involved transfering to another state I was a little anxious. With 5 children ranging from 17 to 4 (plus 2 dogs) the thought of staying in a hotel for 2 months is not exactly an appealing one. I had visions of small cramped hotel rooms, frustrated children etc. My fears were put to rest the moment we checked in.
At check-in the staff were helpful and friendly - a definate plus when you've been travelling by road for 2 days with 5 children and 2 dogs. We were given 2 rooms, side by side, overlooking a very nice outdoor pool and hottub. One room is what is called a "queen penthouse". Basically that means there is a bedroom upstairs with a queen bed, tv, full bathroom and vanity area. Downstairs there is a full kitchen - including pantry, living area with a hide-away queen bed, dining area, which also has work space and a pull down queen bed, and a full bathroom. The second room is a standard room, full bathroom, living area with hideaway bed, queen bed, full kitchen. So between the 2 rooms we have 5 queen beds! Plenty of space, and all the items that we need. The kitchens are fully stocked with all the silverware, dinnerware, etc that you need, and even have dishwashers.
Here's another plus.....housekeeping do a wonderful job, including doing the dishes!
Pets are welcome, they only charge a single $50 pet deposit - much better than most hotels.
Breakfast is provided, including things like waffles, sausages, cereals and pastries etc. And in the evenings there are complimentary drinks and snacks - which range from hot dogs cooked on the bar-b-que by the pool to salads and sandwiches. You can sit by the pool to eat and socialize with other guests, or sit in the very comfortable indoor lounge.
Another point...there are bar-b-ques scattered around the grounds for guest use, a plus when you have children and don't want to be stuck cooking in the room.
Complimentary membership to a local gym is also provided.
All in all, the stay has been very pleasant. We've now been in the hotel for 6 weeks, and have another 2 weeks to go before we close on our new house. Although it will be nice to get into our new house, the stay has not been anywhere near as stressful as I imagined.
While the company covers the cost of our stay I have researched the prices for my own information. They tier the pricing according to length of stay - for a long say (over 11 days) the Queen penthouse room runs $94 per night! Not bad when you compare with other hotels! Granted rates will vary from region to region, but locally the rates are comparable with your average Hilton or Radisson rate.
If you are going to be travelling - especially with a family, I would definately recommend the Residence Inn! It gets 5 stars from our family!
