Finally the Best 10 Horror films ever!!Sep 02 '02 (Updated Feb 01 '03) Write an essay on this topic.The Bottom Line Fear is our most primal emotion.... Horror movies are the catalyst to making us human .. Number 1- THE EXORCIST A lot of people agree and disagree with having this as the scariest horror film of all time . This film was released in 1973 it scared people then and it scares people now . This was the one film whcih didnt make me sleep for a week . The film has the power to make make you think for the first hour how not scary the movie is and make you feel bored in a way, then it dramatically changes . How can a young innocent girl turn into such a demon . A classic and the best for a night alone . Number 2 - A Nightmare on Elm Street PArt1 Wes Cravens birth to Freddy Kruger made the kids of the eighties scared to sleep . This film shaped the way of modern horror/slasher films . Not a tad humorous like its sequels . Although the film is a little short it is still the classic freddy movie . Number 3 - The Shining This film never really found an audience when it came out but horror fans and late night movie marathons made this film an instant classic . The tormented mind of JAck nicholson and those twin girls which constantly freak the hell out of people . A sheer classic. Number 4 - Halloween Before slasher flicks started turning into comedy this film made babysitters think twice about switching off lights and walking into the backyard.When viewed now by the younger crowd this film is brushed away as boring and 'not as good as "Scream '. My dear youngsters this film and others of its time started it all. Number 5 - Silence Of the Lambs Without being gory and having blood everywhere silence of the lambs worked more on the psychological side of real human serial killers . Going to bed thinking about how these people exist out there freaked out audiences . This is no Freddy Kruger this can actually happen . 'Seven' used the same formula but 'the Silence' is still the best . Number 6 - Poltergeist Although many people didnt think the film was that scary . The film was one of Spielbergs best work. The look and feel of this movie give it its frightening effect of a normal family which turns out to have their house haunted , and because an average house looks like yours in the film makes you wonder , can it happen to me. Number 7 - Pet Sematary Top film . Stephen Kings best adaption to film I believe .The thought of bringing back the dead . In my view Stephen Kings best adaption of a novel brought to screen with the execption of Misery and Shawshank Redemption. Number 8 - Evil Dead Gruesome,sometimes humorous . But in the end Evil Dead was the landmark film as to what a good scary gruesome horro film is . The camera work for such a film is superb and people who tell you that this film isnt scary should try watching it alone at night then take a walk through a forest. Nummber 9 - A CLockWork Orange Although not conventionally a horror film , a clockwork orange gives the distinct vision as to what the future may hold . With ultra violence and medical treatment that i serioulsy can see happening in this day and age the way the world is now . People call it rubbish and weird, at least it has a moral at the end of the film . Number 10 - Blair Witch Project People call it a heap of crap . Watch it then go camping .It was an original idea therefore everyone who was used to seeing horror films like 'Scream' wanted to see blood and the killer . What you dont see is what scares you most I believe .  |
