Thanks! A lot of people don't get the difference between RPG and book reviews, and it was interesting to also discover the differences between reviewing RPGs for RPG sites and for Epinions. But then this kind of stuff fascinates me. :)

Very..nicely..done !!

I went right from 'Chutes and Ladders' to playing poker with my brothers and uncles...so I missed all this RPG stuff...

A very useful review...with tips that actually apply to other products and sections...

I think that while many games are the composites of several books, usually one book is designed to be read first and to communicate the basics of the game, which is perhaps a more in-depth explanation of what I meant. :)

But yeah, these various things have sort of built up in my mind over time, and eventually coalesced into an article that I thought might be useful. Hopefully it will help someone. I'm glad that you liked it!

Particularly the part where you talk about needing to explain the relationship between the books and the game. I don't know if I agree that the game is the main rulebook, as most games I've had any contact with (only a few, admittedly) are really the composite of several books and sometimes other material. However, I agree that both need to be discussed and that the relationship between a particular book and the game it's associated with also should be covered for a VH review. I also concur about rating H or SH vs. off-topic if only the game or only the book is discussed.

Sorry, I'll stop rambing now. I just wanted to say that this was a really well-presented piece and one that I think both readers and writers of RPG reviews will find helpful.
