I will be the first to admit that I was the last on the block to sign up for Netflix. All of my friends and family seemed to be members and we constantly heard just how great it was. But not being a fan of adding one more bill to the month, I resisted. "We can rent movies at the local store," I insisted. I mean, they are right there and they rent for 5 days. What I left out is our total inability to return those movies in the 5 day time frame. If late fees were shares in the business, we'd be rich and living on a beach somewhere.
So after browsing around the Netflix catalog and seeing that they had just about anything I could want to rent, I relented with serious reservations. Despite Netflix's promise to get us our movies the next day, could that really be possible? I was doubtful.
I jumped online and loaded up our queue with 40 titles that we've been meaning to rent.
Just 2 short days later, I was pleasantly surprised when our first 2 movies were in our mailbox. We watched them, mailed them out and had more right away. Okay, so I was impressed.
The process seemed smooth and the price at $14.99 a month for unlimited monthly rentals, no late fees and 2 movies at a time was definitely right.
But what if everything wasn't going right. I mean mail does come up missing sometimes, or things get delivered to the wrong box or things get lost. I was certain that the first time something happened, I'd have a firm reason for my trepidation.
First, we lost the little white sleeve the movie came in. No problem, says the website's help section (which was easy to manuever through I might add). Just send it back in the red envelope with a note as to which account it goes to. Easy.
Next, we rented a movie and then decided to keep it for a road trip.... or an extra 2 weeks. I was expecting to see an email when we returned showing me where the fine print said that all late fees are not included and we owed extra money. It didn't happen and we sent the movie in without another thought.
But just this month, my worst fear happened. A movie we mailed back never arrived. Figuring holiday mail had begun, I waited and waited. Finally I went back to the trust help section and reported the problem. And while Netflix will flag your account if it happens too often, they understand that movies do indeed disappear sometime and they asked that if it shows up or we find it, to mail it in. We were not charged for the movie.
So, I'm sold on the site, but here are a few more facts that might sell you...
Affiliate program: You can earn $9 per referral by being accepted in the Netflix affiliate program and putting a logo on your website or blog.
Friends: Invite your friends and you can hang out, view queues, leave each other messages about movies and see how everyone rated different movies.
Purchase DVDs: Just like your favorite video store, you can purchase previously viewed movies at Netflix. Some for as little as $5.99!
So there you have it. Our adventure in one little review. We love Netflix and with what we save in late fees, we might be able to retire soon and move to that beach.
