If you're gonna see Zulu see the prequil (though it came out later) first -- Zulu Dawn. It's nowhere near as good as Zulu, but the two do go hand in hand and it gives the background to help understand Zulu better. The pair rocks!

My two cents. (Reply to this comment)

You've got to fit Glory in there somewhere... That movie makes me want to go back in time and enlist in the Civil War, which doesn't make sense since they all die. But, I think that helps show how good the movie is.

Also, I have to agree with the person(s) who suggested Das Boot. That's a heck of a lot better than Red October, although I do like that one too.

Good list, though. I enjoyed it.

This list was compiled before Band Of Brothers was released. I agree though that it is already a classic and deserves to be in there somewhere. Might be time for a rewrite!

Perhaps those movies are next to the clue you've yet to find. Get one.

How About the miniseries BAND OF BROTHERS? (Reply to this comment)

The book by Stephen Ambrose was very powerful, but the movie is what really brought the men of Easy Company, 2/506th PIR to life for me.

Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg really are to be commended for their exceptionally fine effort(s) in bringing this story to us.

Cheers,

Wow, you dare to criticize Midway?! Blasphemy!! LOL, oh well. I can see your point, but I fell in love with this movie when I was a little kid and I guess that has cemented my opinion of it.

On a side note, I have always thought that this movie was always ripe for a remake. So much took place during this battle that it seems there is enough room for six more movies, and we haven't seen even one. I guess it's because the original was so good!

Take care,

Good subject to disagree on (Reply to this comment)

Of course no 2 people could ever agree on this subject except that Saving Private Ryan should in my opinion be #1. Absolutely. Followed by A Bridge Too Far at 2. Happy to see Patton there. Das Boot would definitely blow Hunt for Red October out of the water as far as realism goes although Hunt is a masterpiece. Now Midway.. oh boy.. Midway.. I don't know, Chuck is great and Fonda too but Midway in my opinion, with all of that cost cutting WWII footage edited in reeks of "Cheesey 70's TV movie". And if there's any doubt about that. one look at Erik Estrada puts the lid on it. Good list overall, but Midway was the sinker. No offence I hope, all said with a smile.

I see Don beat me to the punch with Zulu which has to be my number one pick though I believe you limited yourself to American soldiers (with the exception of "Bridge...") which if my memory is correct was all British Soldiers. I would also include Tora, Tora, Tora.

In light of the events of the day, I hope we will not see any movies with Iraq themes in the future.

Very interesting list. You included some of my favorites, too. If you haven't seen "Zulu," I think you'd love it --- one of my all-time favorite war films.
