The Movies about Love

The Bottom Line We all have a different notion on what love is. As long as you know what your notion is, that is all that counts. (Frenchspree21@aol.com)
#10 Meet Joe Black
Great movie. First off the way the movie begins is wonderful, how Bradd Pitt flirts with Claire Forlani is remarkable (my roommate and I took notes). Then the rest of the movie is how they fall in love and how he falls in love with life. The love scene is great, it's not like all the other movies where its raw sex, here you can feel the love and passion they both have for each other. A real triumph and a great performance by Anthony Hopkins as well.
#9 Casablanca
A wonderful love story that unlike all the other movies does not end like we expect it to. It shows the true sacrifice that some people have to make in order to save the people they love. Also how sometimes you forget about love and when it comes back to you it is like a dagger in your heart and there is nothing you can do. Great acting and an overall touching story.
#8 Sleepless in Seattle
Based on the movie "An Affair to Remember." Tom and Meg do a great job bringing this story back to life in the modern world. The whole movie you're waiting for them to meet because you know they will be great for each other. Everything they go through and all trips each of them take is great, showing you that somewhere out there there is a person looking for exactly the same thing as you. A touching and funny comedy that really hits home.
#7 When Harry met Sally
Meg does it again, this time with Billy. This movie shows you that it is impossible for two single people of the opposite sex to be friends. You may think it's not true but watch the movie and you will understand. This is a great story of two people who take at least 15 years to realize that they are meant for each other. All the little details of someone's life can be what you fall in love with.
#6 An Affair to Remember
If I put the remake I have to out the original. A great love story that has funny moments and ends with you crying like a baby. You never know what is going to happen or if they are ever going to meet again. The tension builds and builds keeping you guessing and hoping on what is going to happen. Everything I just wrote for Sleepless in Seattle, just...better.
#5 Cesar et Rosalie
A French movie that I doubt any of you have seen. Starring Yves Montand and Romy Schneider. The movie has wonderful acting, laughter and cries and has you guessing at then end. An ending which my family and I fight over every time. Unfortunately it would be impossible to translate this movie or have subtitles due to the fact that many of the dialogue is jokes and references that could only be funny and comprehended in French. I am not saying that it is too sophisticated for you, but it's like if we wanted to see Seinfeld in French, it would make no sense. If you do speak French than I recommend you watch this triumph of a movie.
#4 Roman Holiday
A wonderful love story. Audrey Hepburn is wonderful, as is Gregory Peck. A simple of movie of how two completely different people fall in love with each other. What they both have to go through and how Rome is just a city of love and happiness. When it comes to it what will they do? Will they stay together or will they live happily ever after. One of the simplest and wonderful love stories I have ever seen.
#3 Life is Beautiful
In this movie we see the love of a man and a woman and the love of a father to his son. He loves his son so much and he knows that if his son were to find about what went on in the camps that he would be devastated. Roberto Bengini pulls off one of the greatest acting performances I have ever seen (Best Actor winner by the way) to pull of that the camp is a game in order to protect his son. In my list of best movie this is #1. I just thought that in love stories there were two other movies I found better.
#2 Moulin Rouge
One of them is Moulin Rouge. One of the most original ideas I have ever seen. The mixture of songs is great, to be able to combine all these songs into one song I find to be unbelievable. Nichole is great as is Ewan, a great musical and a great story of how love can be right there under your nose. Sometimes, all you need is love and no matter what you think, it is the most important thing.
#1 Amelie
About a year ago I was visiting my family in France. I wanted to go to the movies and the one movie everyone was talking about was "Le fabulin destin d'Amelie Poulin." Everyone was going nuts over that movie, they were talking oscars and all other sort of awards. I must say that I was quite excited to go see it, I was expecting something wonderful. So, we went to see it, I was disappointed. I really did not see the big deal, I considered it another complicated French movie (the French are known for their crazy plots in movies). I did not enjoy it and considered it a simple boring movie. It took me a year for me to pop the tape in my vcr, and before watching it again I said to myself: "Matt just enjoy the movie don't think about what others have told you and try and get an idea of what the director is trying to say." Well after watching it again, I fell in love with Amelie, a couple of days later I went to Allposters.com and bought the poster. It is currently framed and hanging above my bed.
I thought the movie was great, all the little details in which she tries to help people and than help herself. The way she communicates with her admirer through pictures, arrows and notes is unbelievable. Not only is her love for that man great but her love for Life is admirable. I was telling myself this is the type of girl I would want to meet, simple, fun and amusing. Of course, later on, I realized it was only a movie, but to have a movie make me feel that way, I knew it was special.
