| lcase's Full Review: Sharp R-930A Microwave Oven |
I have had three microwaves and I was ready to get a microwave-convection combination oven. My husband and I went to Sun Appliances and got the last one they had--a Sharp Carousel, Model RH66. It was a floor model without a box, so we got a terrific bargain-$350.00!The regular price was close to $600.00.
I had never used convection, but I discovered that it is easy to use and it produces great results. The oven is big enough for my large pans, and there are two racks that I use when I bake cookies and bread. In fact, the turn-table itself can be used as a cookie sheet, so I can bake three sheets of cookies at the same time.
Baked goods bake faster with convection--about 25% faster.
When I bake, I subtract 25% of the directed time, and this works for me. My baked goods always look and taste perfect.
The oven needs to be pre-heated, just like a traditional oven, but some things can be baked with the automatic mix pads. LOW MIX is 350 degrees for baking and HIGH MIX is 275 degrees for roasting.
The microwave works like any other microwave--no metal pans, no browning, quick cooking time.
One feature that I love is the ability to broil in the convection mode. I use the racks that came with the oven to broil steaks, chicken, vegetables, etc. My steaks and chicken are always juicy and tender.
Another favorite feature is the compu-defrost sensor button. Just push it and it automatically defrosts. Sometimes I have to run it through 3 or 4 cycles of defrost, but it defrosts very nicely--no charring or cooking--just defrosting.
My husband loves the popcorn sensor button. Push the button and it automatically pops the corn--perfectly every time.
I can slow cook in my oven for up to 4 hours--a great feature when I have busy days or if I want to cook something that takes hours, like baked beans.
There is also a sensor button for a reheating a dinner plate. This takes the guess-work out of reheating left-overs, because it automatically does it for you, by sensing the amount of moisture in the food.
There is a timer feature, which allows me to time something on the stove. I enter the amount of time, then push the timer pad and it times without turning on the oven.
I really love my oven. I have used it for about 2 years now, with no problems at all. I think I made a good decision.
