I hope you are feeling stronger now.

Dear kboo: I'm so glad that you are still with us, that your husband is home and that you send us your thoughts.
I am old enough to know that most generations in this increasingly robotic world lose their innocence. For America, in 1898, it was the Maine, the Spanish American War and the real beginning of our process of empire. In 1918, it was America's force going abroad in the World. In 1929, the bursting of the margin bubble and the coming of the Great Depression. In 1941, Pearl Harbor. 1963, Kennedy and Vietnam. 9-1-1, you and your lost friend.
These next years are going to be very difficult, in ways the average American has not begun to grasp.
I wish you peace and healing, for what your generation must do, if we are to remain a democracy.
All the best.

your comment on my Hurricane Andrew review and as bad as that was,in my mind. it cant compare to WTC attack, not even a little bit..At least we could prepare and the loss of life was minimal...
I just cant imagine your anquish and the fear you have felt..As a Native New Yorker myself..I can feel some of the pain..
Thank you for your kind comment and for writing this insight into what it has been like for survivers like you.
I will never forget either

I don't have much to add to what Nick says, because I feel the same way. The immense talent you had demonstrated before translated into the most moving expressions in your last several contributions here. Thank you for continuing to share with us.
I'm glad your husband is home now, and I hope things are finally becoming settled; but I'm terribly sorry for your many losses, particularly of your old friend.

and brave of you to share your story. It's so difficult to find appropriate words when dealing with a tragedy on this scale - but you've managed to put the feelings into black and white and respect them all at once.

Your Words are Spoken so Eloquently (Reply to this comment)

I did not watch the TV accounts of one year ago. Instead I reflected on the 3,000+ lives senselessly lost. I wondered how can someone be so hell bent on hurting innocent lives?
One year ago I read your words of wisdom from someone who was there. I tried to visualize what you went through but we readers can never know what it feels like. I pray you can recover some sense of confirt knowing that your Epinions friends are with you in spirit.
This incident will forever be etched in our minds come September 11th. Thank you for expressing your feelings.

Your accounts on EP the weeks after 9/11.... (Reply to this comment)

...were among the most stirring of those I read or heard. Your eye for detail, your ability to keep deep emotion from becoming maudlin in the written word, and your deep personal connection to the tragedy came through vividly to me 3,000 miles away from Ground Zero. You may not see it that way, but what was surely a therapeutic process for you to exorcise some of your feelings was a most helpful process for me and, I'm sure, many others.
In fact, today on my way in to work in LA...under a sunny Pacific sky on the Left Coast.. I was amazed at how emotional I became listening to NPR's live coverage from NY, DC and PA.
I can only imagine what it's like in those locations today.
May peace be with you always.

I won't insult you by telling you I know how you must feel, because I don't.
But I can tell you that I hope you continue to heal, and that I send all of my best wishes to you and yours, for whatever that is worth.
And Repo Man is one of my all-time favorites, and if you ever find yourself in the right situation, I would be happy to help you remember a few of the lines.
Peace.
