About Me: No joke, my face really is an emoticon with a question mark for a mouth.

Uber sensitivity for the Uber gamer

Written: Jun 24 '01
Pros:Ultra sensitive, programmable buttons, GREAT warranty
Cons:Expensive, a slightly large learning curve.
The Bottom Line: I game a lot and this is simply the best gaming mouse. We were made for each other.

In the world of fast action computer gaming, there are two types of people: Those with a Razer Boomslang and those who are dead.
After first researching what kind of input device would have the pleasure of accompanying my new gaming machine, I came up with two main contenders. An intellieye optical mouse from Microsoft and a Razer Boomslang from Karna, a company I had never seen. Naturally, I was a bit skeptical about the Boomslang from Karna. A mouse named after a deadly snake and a company name that sounds like it eats meat weren’t initially appealing. But after sampling an intellieye mouse, I knew a Boomslang was right for me. Here's why:
1) Extreme sensitivity. The ultra touchy Boomslang puts your wrist and forearm at ease. You merely have to move the mouse half an inch or so and all the visual data you would need in a first person shooter are surveyed.
a) This really is a HUGE perk. In a fast-paced computer game, you don’t have time to pick the mouse up off the pad and yank it back to a comfortable position. The Boomslang 2000 keeps your hand comfortably stationary and leaves all the work to your more nimble fingertips. The difference between the sensitivity of the Boomslang and a traditional mouse can be likened to a new truck with power steering and a 1943 cabbage-hauler with suicide knob and obvious lack of power steering.
2) Programmable buttons. Every button has the capability to have a macro – a series of commands executed with just one command – programmed into it.
b) In a first person shooter, you could set it to switch to your favorite weapon by clicking a mouse button instead of using the keyboard. Or you could program a more complex macro, one that would open the chat dialogue, type “Nice going,” then send the message, all with just one button and no time out of the action.
3) A THREE-YEAR warranty.
That pretty much speaks for itself.

True, the Boomslang 2000 is a little bit expensive, but for someone who spends their leisure time gaming it is an excellent investment. Weekend golfers will drop $400 on the latest titanium-faced, graphite-shafted, leather-gripped driver only to find that the ball still slices, but it just goes that guaranteed 10 yards longer into the rough. I figure, why not buy something that you know you will enjoy day-in and day-out for a long time?
