Pros: Ultralight and ultraportable. Stylish, and with a great keyboard. Great power in a small chassis
Cons: No stereo, only a mono speaker. Not suitable for playing intense graphics games.
The Bottom Line: This a great system for anyone who wants an ultraportable, but does not want to pay a high price for a Sony Vaio or a Toshiba Portege.

| g-force's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 2100 Series |
To me, the Dell Inspiron 2100 was a great buy as it only cost me S$3150 (US$1731.65).
My unit came with 128RAM, 10GB HDD and with a CD-RW. I would say it was quite a bargain.
It was well within my budget for a ultraportable. The others such as Sony and Toshiba cost so much more.
However, it is important to note that it severly lacks in the multimedia department.
The notebook performs well for business applications, but at times lags quite badly for the intense 3D graphic games.
The unit is built in only with a mono speaker and so music can sound pretty gritty. I minimised this problem by using a pre-amp program.
It offers a ATI Rage Mobility Card 4MB video RAM and it plays VCDs and normal graphic games rather well.
Some people gripe about the screen size (12.1"), but that has to be expected for an ultraportable.
Others might find the external CD and Floppy drive troublesome, but again that is a feature existant on ultraportables.
During use, the unit can be expected to heat up quite a lot and can cause extreme discomfort if you like to place it on your lap.
The battery life was unimpressive and can be considered pretty average. It is not wise to travel without your charger being handy, as the battery might conk out sooner that expected.
An understated fact of the notebook is the keyboard. It offers a full sized keyboard not usually found on an ultraportable. I found it extremely comfortable and easy to use.
It is also interesting to note that Gateway offers shocking similar notebook: the. The chassis was an exact replica as the 2100. The specs were also exceedingly similar.
It looks like Dell and Gateway has the same OEM. Anyway, I chose Dell due to its better tech support.
