Never underestimate the power of a boy band to preach the Gospel.

All I can say is that a lot has changed in nine years. Thank goodness!

I am no longer a proponent of the distinctions between "secular" and "Christian" music, for several reasons. I no longer get fired about providing "alternatives" which are basically copycats. I could write a book on why Christians produce bad art, copy culture rather than creating it, and allow the moral of the story to usurp the beauty of the story. But...Andy Stanley already wrote that book.

I do still agree with the fact that sometimes even poorly made things can have good results, which is not an excuse for poor quality, only a reality that God doesn't always rely on the best of the best in order to make things happen.

Anyway, this is really funny to me! I'm tempted to delete it because it's kind of obnoxious and embarrassing...but then, I suppose I should be proud of little teenage me for having the conviction to write this. Hahahah!

Good point. (Reply to this comment)

Why? Because many plusOne listeners haven't heard older versions of the same message.

You know, that's a really good point that I hadn't thought about before. I still think The Promise is painful to listen to, personally, but I do have to agree that if I was approaching the message for the first time, this wouldn't be a bad place to encounter it.

However, I still hold that some of the songs may present a slightly false view of what the Christian life is really like. But then again, so do a lot of songs by Christian bands these days.

By the way, listen to what that LifeStar guy has to say. He's a good reviewer. (Despite the fact that I don't like FFH either.)

You took a bold step in speaking out... though I really don't like Plus One, you're to be commended for saying what you had to say...sorta like me and FFH. Anyways, I'll keep an eye out for your reviews.
