We have lived in our home for 24 years, and this past summer we remodeled our kitchen. Hopefully it will be another 24 years before we have to do it again! What a mess!

With our new counter tops installed, I wanted to keep them looking new and so when I was at Home Depot one day, I bought a cleaner made by a company I had never heard of before, the Hope Company. They make a line of products specifically designed for solid surfaces, counter tops, floors, stainless steel, brass, copper and silver. In this review I am focusing on their Solid Surface Cleaner and Polish.
What I found refreshing about this Hopes product was the fact that it contains NO waxes, mineral oils, harsh chemicals, silicone resins or abrasives. Because there are no oils and waxes in this cleaner, there are no residue's that will build up over time.
You may wonder how well it works without any oils or waxes, but it really does give my Corian countertops a deep, rich shine. It also claims to protect hard surfaces from all that grease, grime and stains that we deal with in our kitchens - and used on a regular basis, I find that to be true.
There are no ingredients listed on my 10 ounce bottle, so I can't tell you exactly what is in this formula. I am a stickler for reading ingredients, but I guess the fact that the Hope Company stated there were no harsh chemicals in this formula was good enough for me.
Directions (from bottle)
Shake well, apply with a soft cloth and rub until clean. Turn cloth and buff to a shine. Repeat if necessary. Frequent use will further enhance gloss and smoothness.
Because this product leaves a protective coating on surfaces, it is not for use on floors, showers, tubs, or any walking surfaces. They will simply be too slippery and it would be a health hazard. (After all, it is a polish!).
Areas For Use
I have used this product safely on countertops, bathroom vanities, bars, sinks, shower doors, office furniture, tables, desks, and plastics. It is not for use on laminate however. Countertop materials specifically mentioned for use on are: Corian, Granicoat, Avonite, Wilsonart Gibralter and SSV, Surell, Florenata, Transolid, Topstone Swanstone, Fountainhead, Karadon, Staron, Sablestone, Kemresin Lite, Cerrata, Vendura, Tecron, Hi-Macs, and Etura.
My Experience with Hopes Solid Surface Cleaner and Polish
This product reminds me of a similar product that we have used on our car windshields. A local glass company applied a protectant to our windshields, and when it rained the water simply ran off in sheets. Nothing stuck to the windshield. Hopes works in the same way. It forms a barrier on the surface that not only makes it clean and shiny, but it protects it from spills, crayon marks, utensil scratches, stains, etc.
Our new sink is made of a composite material similar to Swanstone, and this product works great at keeping the sink cleaner for longer periods of time. I find I have to scrub my sink much less often because whatever I dump into the sink doesn't stick to the sides or bottom. The surface protectant repels the liquids and grime. Each time I use it, it renews the color and shine as well as removing any stains that might be present (from my forgetting to protect it often enough with Hopes!!).
The cleaner has a fresh smell that is hard to put a name to. It reminds me of lemons when I smell it, but the odor does not linger once I have finished my cleaning. The liquid cleaner is easy to use, with a flip top cap that is easy to open (an issue for me lately with many child proof caps!).
I thought this product was expensive, costing nearly $5 a bottle. But when I think of the thousands of dollars we invested in our new kitchen, I didn't think again about the price, I just wanted to see for myself if it did what it claimed to do. And it did. New materials on the market such as Corian, Swanstone, Granite, etc. can be more challenging to clean than laminate counter tops. We all know that stains, spills and accidents are inevitable in the kitchen, and this product is specifically designed to help keep my kitchen looking new. A good investment if you ask me.
