Sounds unmolested (Reply to this comment)

My aunt went to NZ a while back and strongly recommended it.
With so many places to go and see, NZ is a bit far; it also takes forever to get there =(.
It's interesting you mention the speed limits are so strictly enforced. I read that in nearby Australia (probably very different) there are NONE as you cross the great deserts.
Nicely written, and thanks for sharing!

It's always nice to know this sort of thing before you go there. Now... if only I could afford to take a trip out there for a few... years... ;-)

I wish I would have read this before we went to New Zealand last year! We rented a HUGE motorhome and it was glorious, but you are so right about the livestock (the kids were so thrilled to see millions of cows up close). And We did occasionally find ourselves on the wrong side of the road, but only when we pulled out of a driveway or parking lot.
In my opinion every country in the world should agree on one side or the other to end all this confusion!
Oh, and thanks so much for the info on buying a car! We are planning to buy as soon as we arrive and didn't have much to go on except for the used car lots on the net. Auctions are a great idea and I'm sure will save us lots of money.

most of the speed cameras are easy to spot here because they are mobile. If you see a car parked up in a speed camera area you can bet your bottom dollar it will be a cop with a camera.
They arent too devious ... yet.

...We also do it in the UK! Are the speed cameras easy to spot? They are here!
All the best!
