I'm not good at scales. Compared to the Outlook, the CX-9 feels smaller and more taut and precise. But the CX-7 in turn feels significantly smaller and sportier than the CX-9.

A question and a comment.

1. I would bet the Outlook's advantage in resale value down the line would help negate the added cost vs the Ford, which seems to be a slow seller from what I hear. It seems fine technically but uninspiring image wise, which in my experience means poor resale value if it isn't a Honda or Toyota.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how much better does the Mazda CX-9 handle vs the Outlook? What about the CX-7? I've driven the latter but not the other two.

Saturn Outlook Also Has Roomiest Seats... (Reply to this comment)
by wendahloosa
First of all...I want to thank you for this excellent review and comparison. We also looked at all 3 vehicles (and almost every other small to midsize crossover vehicle, SUV and a couple minivans). We needed a roomy, safe and fun family vehicle.

We finally decided to order a custom 2007 Saturn Outlook. We chose the upscale XR model with AWD...then skipped most of the extra option packages and purchased the wonderful dual sunroof w/skylight...and the heavy duty trailering package (we will be able to tow up to 4500 lbs).

We also agree with the reviewer and chose the black cloth interior (instead of the grey or tan). Unfortunately...all the exterior color choices for the Outlook seemed very bland. Shades of white, grey, brown, very dark (almost Navy) blue...and (luckily) a Red Jewel Tint Coat. We opted for the sporty red...but would have loved the rich Blue found on the Saturn Vue.

We'll have a roomy, practical, fun family vehicle. With all the basic comforts and safety features we need...for a total price of around $35,000.00. The sales people at Saturn were helpful and friendly, without being too pushy...and the Saturn website allows you to build and configure your Saturn online, so you'll know your pricing up-front and you'll know the cost of all available upgrades, accessories, etc...allowing you to chose what you want to spend your money on and what options you can do without.

Now...let's talk about why we chose to buy the Saturn over all the other crossovers, SUVs and minivans we test drove...

I wanted a minivan...for the roomy seating, safety features and gas mileage that was better than most SUVs. My husband hated the idea of driving a minivan and wanted a sportier SUV...and while I agreed with his sentiment...my practical mind still leaned towards a minivan.

Then...we discovered the crossover vehicles. The GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook, Ford Freestyle, Chrysler Pacifica, Ford Edge, etc...

We found the Pacifica and the Edge too small and low to the ground...and the Freestyle was too narrow...but the Acadia and the Outlook were roomy, comfortable and just the right height.

With safety features too numerous to mention, gas mileage and interior space similar to a minivan...and a sporty look comparable to most SUVs...the Acadia and the Outlook seemed to be perfect for our family. A compromise between a minivan and an SUV...but they're both such great looking and practical vehicles...that we don't feel like we're compromising...instead it feels like the best of both worlds.

Finally...my husband is over 6 feet tall and I am a "plus-size" woman. One of the things we look for in a vehicle...is roomy seating, so we don't feel crowded, etc...

The reason we chose the Saturn Outlook over the GMC ACadia...is because it had the roomiest and most comfortable front seats of every vehicle we test drove...except the minivans...and it cost about $2000 to $4000 less than the Acadia (depending on how you equip each vehicle). Also...the Saturn allowed us to skip some fancy and costly options that were standard on the Acadia...allowing us to save even more.

So...if you're tall or big and looking for a safe, practical, roomy...yet sporty family vehicle...go take the Saturn Outlook for a test drive and we bet you'll enjoy it as much as we did.

We can't wait for our new vehicle to arrive at the dealership...we've had a great buying experience so far...the only downside is that the Saturn Outlook sells so fast, that the dealerships never have too many on their lot and it takes 6-8 weeks, if you have to order one.

But...we think it's worth the wait.
