The Bottom Line net mds are the intermidiate of portable music, they offer accesible inexpensive media, fast data download, small size, they dont skip, and theyre cheap (150$ up)
i know many people will come to this page looking for help because they are confused about portable mds, i know becuase this hapened to myself and i ended up spending my money on a mp3-cd player that didnt fit in my pocket, all because i read on some review that mds where like the betamax and that they were obsolete, well try to be open minded i know there are a good amount of hard drive mp3 player out there with great capacity, but for the wide range of people who dont have 300$ to spend on upfront try to look at md players, especially on the new sony net md, with this great improvement from sony the main problem people had with mds is solved ( the problem was that people complained to much because they had to record in real time like a cassette and that bugged them) but with the new net mds, u can rip cd and youre mp3 or wma song at up to 32x speed. This makes mds a great choice, lets see what mds facing up against and its pros and cons:
MP3-CD PLAYER: well this is a rather new entry on the portable audio ring, its versatile, not so expensive, and also uses non expensive media like cds, besides you can also play the cd colection that you alreayd own, but lets face it nobody likes to carry around a cd player they simply are to big, i know alot of people who dont mind, but wouldnt you like to have more music that fits in youre pocket easily. thats what mds have over portable cds and to many people that means alot. besides they tend to skip during hard activities like jogging or even a fast walk
FLASH MEMORY BASED MP3 PLAYER:
well these are found at various shape and sizes, some ultra small others ok, some boasting 128 mb others only 32mb, allthough they are extra small, ( like half md player) they have a main catch, flash memory is VERY VERY expensive to the point that a flash memory card costs 45$ and up, and if you dont want to be going to and from to youre computer everytime you get tired of 2-3 hours of music ( on the ones with 128 mb memory like 1 hour for 32) you will have to buy alot of these little "cards" and that can be heavy on the pockets... but if you only need alittle music or dont mind downloading music to it on a frequent basis this might be for you
HARD DRIVE MP3 PLAYER: these new entrys bost a big mini harddrive around 5 gb to around 20gb, these can keep a huge assortment of music in there, and they dont skip, imagine having 1000 or in some cases even 4000 song at the palm of youre hand, sounds nice but not many people have the 300$ and up to pay for one, but if you can afford it i think you should and you wont be dissapointed. but for the rest of you just read on.
NOW WHAT MD OFFERS THAT THESE DONT
I like to think of mds are like the intermidiate between all the portable audio players, they are small enough for most of us but dont require expensive media like flash based mp3 players, the have inexpensive media ( a 80 min. md cost about 2$ and you can fit up to 5 hours of music in one) like cd players and with md long play you can fit five hours of music on to a 80 min md but like i said theyre small and easy to fit in ure pocket, they also provide having alot of music since you can keep the small mds with u in a little bag not like the huge cd wallets, now if all these benefits convince you like they convinced me id recomendo you buy sony net mds, some good models are the mz-505 and the mz-707 both made by sony, now go enjoy youre music no matter where you listen to it
