cambridgejen's Full Review: Dualit Vario 20293 2-Slice Toaster
Until my boyfriend moved in this year, I always believed that toast is toast. You put a piece of bread in the toaster, push the lever, and it pops up when it's done.
Not so.
In the world of flashy stainless-steel toasters, toasting bread is much more glamorous and mysterious. Instead of a lever, there's a dial that makes you guess the appropriate setting. If you set it to the recommended setting, your toast will come out black and charred. If you try to work around that and set it at a lower setting, the toast may continue toasting indefinitely, until the smoke alarm notices and wakes up the entire neighborhood.
I'm sure that there's a secret to making decent toast with this thing, but I haven't found it. All I know is that my perfectly functional $10 toaster is long gone, and this one is taking up twice the room but ruining my toast every weekend. If you have any sense about you, you'll keep shopping for something that really works.
