| lllopez's Full Review: Woolite Oxy Deep Cleaner |
Now that winter has bared its teeth we can all expect the ravages of the season to make itself apparent. Snow will fall as fast as the temperatures, we will don our coats, gloves and boots and likely track in a lot of muck from once pristine landscapes, making it necessary to seek a carpeting Rx. Here lately I have been real impressed with an old friend, Woolite and its Oxy Deep cleaner!
The Oxy Deep Oxygen Activated System is perhaps one of the better cleaners I have used to attack small spots on our carpets, this time of year. I opted for the pump spray instead of the 2x system partially because of a disappointing outing of the similar Resolve product. No gimmicks here, Woolite Oxy Deep offers up no gimmicks, just results.
Kicking the Tires A Bit
The manufacturers, Rickitt Benckiser, Bissell & Woolite claim that the Oxy Deep product removes:
Red Wine
Fruit Juice
Ink
Coffee
Tea
Food
Pet accidents
Chocolate
Blood
Cola
Mud Dirt
Motor Oil/ Grease
I can claim excellent results with Grape Juice which Woolite Oxy Deep cleaned up with no problem at all. You have to keep in mind, when cleaning carpets, dabbing produces better results than wiping, paying particular attention to using clean cloth with each couple of dabs. Blood was another test as I trimmed my dogs claws a little too close and she tracked the carpet with a number of blood spots. While these were tougher to get out, they did with a little more effort, with no apparent traces left behind. Mud and dirt are as easy as the amount of mud you are bringing in with you. Oxy Deep is meant as a spot, not carpet shampooing solution, so you have to assess if a spill requires more attention than this product can manage. Hydrogen Peroxide is a component Woolite Oxy Deep making it foam a bit causing it to penetrate deeper into the carpet fiber and not run through it to the backing. I took Woolite Oxy Deep to my neighbor who breeds puppies and is always cleaning carpets in his garage/barn. We selected a spot on near a whelping box where his last litter had a few accidents. The Woolite Oxy Deep tackled some difficult stains quickly, though I suspect I may have opted for steam cleaning to kill bacteria, but, the stains were all gone and no apparent trace of a urine smell left behind on that small throw.
I tried similar experiments with oil, which was okay but I rarely have to deal with oil stains so the marginal results were of no concern to me. We have since used the product on a number of spills ranging from food spills to ink with great results. The key is to let Oxy Deep soak in. Walk away and be prepared to re apply if necessary. Patience pays off.
Smell is a relative issue. Personally I dont find the smell objectionable but if it is an issue for you, open the bottle before you buy it.
Final Thoughts
Whenever you read a product endorsement, you need to take a few things into consideration. Mud stains for instance; you need to consider that folks reading this review come to it from different places. Some may be tracking in red clay, or soil heavily laden with minerals, ore, hard or soft water. Your needs may be different. You may have 6 dogs living with you or just a puppy. The point is experimentation is a key component to accepting this product as an appropriate one for your household. The disparity you see when reading reviews on a good product speak more to application than quality, I believe. While there are some constants that never change, there are many elements that we introduce by virtue of our lifestyles. Woolite Oxy Deep is a product that can handle light to medium intensive tasks with ease. While it is not on par with Spot Shot, is a great alternative and I would not hesitate heartily endorsing Woolite Oxy Deep.
