Myfamily.com is an internet service that allows family members to meet together, share pictures, stories, news, recipes, birthdays and other special family celebrations. Each family member is has their own username and password which keeps the sight secure allowing family members to share photos and news freely without being concerned of online predators. Although I have not used the family tree building feature it is there. You can build your family tree on the website. It also has the feature of being able to chat live online with someone who is logged on at the same time. Our opinion section of the website is full of movie reviews, book reviews, how teams are doing during the season, and other opinions that are usually laced with humor. If you wish to schedule a time for everyone to get on and chat there is also a place to do that on the website.
Myfamily.com is apart of the ancestory.com and peoplefinder.com. However your subscription to Myfamily.com will only allow you access to that portion of the company and not to ancestory.com and peoplefinder.com. For a limited time however ancestory.com is offer free service until December 31, 2006 to use their site in celebration of reaching 100 million names.
The price to join myfamily.com is $29.95 for the standard subscription, and $109.95 for the super site with a personal domain. We have the standard subscription included is 1GB of space. The $109.95 super site comes with 5 GB of space. The first 30 days of each is a free trial period before you have to pay the $29.95 or the $109.95. When you enter the website you will find from top to bottom the following sections: New additions Calendar, photos, news, chat, online tree, History, File cabinet, Reviews, Recipes, and Polls. On the right hand side of the website you can see the family members names and when the last time they logged on. There is also the option to upgrade if you wish to.
I was introduced to myfamily.com in June of 2004 when my extended family decided it would be a great opportunity for us to communicate with each other after years almost no communication at all. After my Grandma died 15 years ago, the family reunions stopped, and we drifted apart from my Aunt and Uncle and cousins. 2004 we had our first family reunion in 15 years. We had a great time and everyone decided they missed each other and wish we could keep in contact. That is when my cousin Michelle found the myfamily.com website. The price was $29.95 for the family, well worth it to be able to stay in touch with long lost relatives.
Since 2004 we have stayed connected through the website. It is how we share our news of new babies, deaths in the family, if someone has been sick, if someone went on a great vacation, the list could go on and on. We also enjoy seeing up to date pictures of family members. This especially was handy when we had our 3 son this past August. We were able to get on and post the news and pictures for everyone to see without worrying we were forgetting someone, and it saved a lot of time by not having to send a ton of emails. Birthday parties are often announced on the website as an effort to invite everyone without having to mail invitations.
Of the features I have personally used the calendar to add events with fairly easy use. I have Uploaded and looked at family pictures with great ease, posted family news, done book and movie reviews, posted recipes, and posted and taken polls. All of the above were very user friendly and walked you through the process of how to add new photos, recipes, reviews, news and polls.
My experience with myfamily.com has so far been very positive. I have enjoyed the ability to connect with family all over the country with a single click. The news sections have kept me in the loop when previously I felt like the last to find out. I enjoy seeing the pictures of everyone, especially the children, as they get older. It helps you feel more a part of their lives.
When I signed up and opted not to get the automatic emails. A very good decision from what I have heard from other family members who didn't do the same thing and get a lot of emails from myfamily.com.
When I am looking for a recipe my Grandma use to make, I just get online and ask, and almost always someone has it and will post it in the recipe section of the website.
My favorite section of the website is the photo section. I feel safe posting pictures of my kids on the website and names without the concern that some unwanted guest is going to be looking at the pictures and gaining information.
As I have not had a negative experience with myfamily.com this portion of my review will be very brief. As I mentioned before make sure that when you sign up that you do not get the automatic emails or you will get emails, a lot of them.
