So you want a Toshiba Portege? (warning, long)
by lawman67 | Oct 04 '02
Porteges are popular computers and even older ones retain their "wow" factor, just know which models represent the best value.

toshiba portege 7020ct memory upgrade (Reply to this comment)
by johnnyspeed
hi there, like the review lawman67.I have been using the toshiba portege 7020ct for years now,and it performs well.but i've got trouble with the max memory of 192mb,also im using windows xp pro with it. i read lawman67's review and was intrested about what he said about memory: The 7140 and 7020 will both easily run Windows XP, though Windows 2000 is still a better fit on the 7020. These support 192MB of RAM, though some users have had success using 256MB modules taking their ram to 320MB.The trouble is where can you get a 256mb module for this computer?.i have only seen the 128mb and 64mb modules on sale, not a 256mb. Can anyone give any extra advice about this plz.

Hi there... great info. With all your Toshiba experience... is it possible to upgrade the Hard Drive. I have a 3440CT and want to upgrade... but a 40gb drive that I put in is not being recognized. Any ideas??

thanks so much,

Awesome 7000 series... why did it end???? (Reply to this comment)
by tif383335
Hi... I've been a fan of the portege 7000 series for while now... I've had the 7200, 7220 (which was stolen )-: , 7140 (which I gave to my best friend), and now on a college budged own a 7000 (Which I bought for $75 :-).
What I'm trying to figure out is why the 7XXX series seems to have come to a halt... the concept of the docking station is awesome. I own two of them... one which stays permanently planted at my desk hooked up to my accessories, and the other for being out on the road when I need an optical drive. The only thing I disliked about the 7220 was the fact that it was a lot slower than I would have liked it to be, and I would have gladly paid much more money for a 7xxx laptop with greater speed, and video card capabilities.

Is there a possibility that it could ever be revived?

And

Now that I have the 7000 which works pretty good with XP (surprisingly) I can do a lot of things, just slower, except play DVDs, which I understand it's supposed to be able to do. Do I need a decoder driver, or is my docking station the wrong version?

In the bios setup utility (press *esc* while booting, then hit *F1*), there will be a setting for Accupoint. I don't have a 7020 handy, but usually the choices are Autoselect, Accupoint, PS/2 or Simulataneous. Autoselect seems to cause the fewest problems, while simultaneous will ensure that anything you plug-in works.

Hello
Thanks for your report. As you know so well the portege i have a question. If you could help me would be great. I Bought a Toshiba portege 7020CT and can not make the accupoint mouse work. If i put an external mouse from the back it works fine but i couldn't manage to make the accupoint to move 1 time. I am working with XP.
Is it possible to have both the accupoint and the microsoft mouse? Where should i look for to make this work?
Thanks for your help

Great job of detailing the different models of Toshiba laptops. This would be an excellent guide for anyone looking to purchase a laptop.
