About Me: Computer engineer working at home after too many years as a wage slave.

Beware: Pretty Face, Evil Character

Written: Jul 02 '01
Pros:Never found any
Cons:Customer service staffed by total morons
The Bottom Line: This is the worst customer service I have ever seen. Even worse than America West, if that's possible.

My hosting company was acquired by a bigger fish (this seems to happen more often every day) and I decided to change because I didn't like the way they were jerking me around with their "policy changes." Boy did I jump from the frying pan into the fire! I searched the web for recommendations (unfortunately didn't check here) and decided to try Webhosting.com. I filled out their online order form and sat back to wait for my email confirmation. And waited. And waited some more. Finally I called their customer service people who told me their automatically generated confirmation notice didn't make through my email server. Come to find out my ISP also had been acquired by another company and had arbitrarily changed my email address because they didn't want to continue using the primenet domain name (remember Primenet? they were good, once.) Webhosting customer service said I would now have to handle transfer of my domain name to their servers by contacting InterNIC myself, because they had already "done their part."
I said OK let's just forget it and cancel the order.
They said we can't do that over the phone, you have to send us a fax.
But what if I don't have a fax machine?
Sorry, that's how we do it here, and besides, you still have to pay a $50 setup fee.
But wait, you didn't actually do anything for me! I asked for the name of the company CEO and mailing address so I could write a letter.
The person on the phone didn't know who is the CEO.
I asked for the highest ranking manager in the office.
They refused to provide the name.
I finally had to resort to disputing the charges to my credit card to get the smell of this company off my shoes.
This is a Canadian company. I guess they are immune to market forces.
