This is a very good review and I think that I should have put Common's debut album on my top 10 most overrated albums list.
You need "Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop" by Diamond D & The Psychotic Neurotics, but other than that...Great Job

i hear ya, dawg.
although i don't have a number of these album, i do feel i needed to give you props for the Can I Borrow a Dollar jont. i remember when i first saw the video for Soul by the Pound, i was like "what?" the sound was so fresh and it just stuck out -- i was getting sick of the same type of beats; similar to how sick i am of the neptune beats right now.
common has really grown up musically. you gotta have that first album to appreciate the growth.
anyway, on the real, "don't fall in love" and "theonlious" (i'm spelling that wrong) are my jonts on that album! but they don't touch "tainted". i need a wicked instrumental for "tainted". know where i can find one?

p.s. side note, i recently got a press release saying that Ladybug (of DP fame) is set on releasing something in the very near future. it should be on the web by now.
share your thoughts accordingly.

sorry, Def Jux doesn't do it for me... I really haven't cared for much of anything they've put out. The lyrics might be nice, but their flows are lacking, and the production isn't the greatest... my opinions! :-)

Sam

If I See One More... (Reply to this comment)

Reviewer actually recommend Fantastic, Vol. 2, I'm going to scream more than Onyx with gas. That is one of the most boring, ignorant, sleep-inducing Hip-Hop LP's I've ever heard.
Other than that and Can I Borrow A Dollar?, this was a list that I can mostly agree with. I've listened to some of Soul On Ice but can never seem to find the whole album. Music web sites are out of stock, record stores don't have any copies, there aren't any used because most Hip-Hop fans want to keep a piece of history, etc...
However, great review; I need to do one of these someday.

of these picks here are excellent ones. I think it's a fact of life that any Dead Prez album that is released will be automaticallly slept-one. I consider "Soul On Ice" a classic as well, but you're right, there's too much sleeping with that one. Anyway, excellent list.
