Sam's Very Own, Tried & True "GTD" Mix

The Bottom Line In need of romance, but budget's lookin' a little sickly? Go grocery shopping, make dinner for that special someone, thrown on this CD, and do what comes naturally! :-)

Note: This review was written by Sam while he was in full mack mode... there's a bit of slang ahead, and a decent amount of humor. This is meant to be taken lightly, folks!

Those of you who watched "Martin" know what I'm talkin' about... you smooth playas out there do, too. For those of you not down enough to know what "GTD" stands for, I'll spell it out for ya:

Get
Them
Draws

(For those of you even further engulfed in Wonder© bread-ness, draws, in this case, refers to female undergarments)

Every fella out there with a little Max Julian in him is bound to make a smooth r&b mix that's bound to have the panties around the ankles by track 3... and I'm no different. So with no further ado, here is the make-up of Sam's Very Own, Tried & True GTD Mix:

Al B. Sure - "Oooh This Love Is So..."
From the man who brought you "Night & Day" and a not half-bad remake of the Eagles' "Hotel California", here's a track that's not very well known. Those of us old enough to remember when Al was at his peak (or actually owned any of his albums) will love this track... but it's not for r&b neophytes.

Sade - "Bulletproof Soul"
Another jewel from the Queen of slow jams, this one from her "Love Deluxe" album. A heavy bassline combined with a smoothed out saxophone and Sade's lovely vocals make it very romantic, even if it's meant to be sad.

Jill Scott - "He Loves Me (Lyzel In E-Flat)"
Fellas, don't fret... although it's called "He Loves Me", the ladies won't mistake your sexuality if you dig this track. Probably the best love-making beat I've ever heard, Jilly from Philly bring it on this song.

Force MDs - "Tender Love"
Hey now, forget about that reuinion album they put out in 2000... these fellas had soul back in the day. "Tender Love", with it's unmistakably recognizable piano intro, makes for a very romantic atmosphere.

Bilal - "Soul Sista"
Passionate vocals make this track. Bilal's ability to scream/sing his vocals with so much emotion is trumped only by the Purple one. If you think the song is slammin, you need to see the video :-)

Alexander O'Neal - "If You Were Here Tonight"
That's right, "All True Man" makes the list, too. "If You Were Here Tonight", with a bold beat and subtle acoustic guitar make for an emotionally charged slow jam... For more of this good stuff, see also O'Neal's "Sunshine".

Amel Larrieux - "Make Me Whole"
DISCLAIMER: Fellas, a word of advice... don't throw this into just any GTD compilation. This is a song that'll have your lil' tenderoni catchin' feelings. Only recommended for love-makin' that takes place in monogamous relationships that you want to take to the next level... trust me on this one!

Maxwell - "This Woman's Work"
Sure, that high-pitched stuff at the beginning might get every dog in your neighborhood riled up, but Maxwell's voice is golden to your woman's ears. Not only are the vocals on point, but the lyrics are respectful... something bound to make a woman swoon. Don't believe me? Check your mate's response when this song comes on in "Love & Basketball"

Sade - "Is It A Crime"
That's right, she made the list twice... but she deserves it. Again, impassioned vocals make the song worth it, with a strong performance on sax to back it all up. If you can get through one of Sade's rousing choruses on this song without thinkin' "damn, this would be a good boot-knockin' track", you have no soul... lol

Babyface - "Whip Appeal"
It might just be me, but the numerous times that Kenneth repeats "c'mon whip it on me.... work it on me" just screamed "Sam, put me on a GTD compilation!!".

That's 10 tracks... I know that might be a little too long for a lot of you guys out there, but be thankful I didn't include the extended mixes of "Computer Love" or Prince's "Adore"

I'll be back with more... believe that!

P.S. - I take no responsibility for any babies birthed as a result of my ability to come with the mad smooth mixes. I can't help it that I'm skilled like that.
