What's In My DVD Player During PMS Week - The Top 10 Tear-Jerkers

Oct 24 '02

The Bottom Line When I'm watching these movies - hint - not a good time to be in the room with me.

There are some people who hate to cry during movies. I certainly do not like to cry in front of people whether it’s at the movies or in other situations. During that special couple of days during the month however, I like to have a library of movies that I can pop in so that I can get all of the tears out of me...And move on with the rest of my life.

Every single one of these movies will get me sobbing. Oh yes, I'm sure I left something off. By the way, these are in NO certain order because as a woman, I certainly have the prerogative to change my mind at any time.

Love Story
I've watched Ali McGraw die a thousand times and still, I break down. It's tragic! Love, so young snuffed out by that nasty leukemia stuff. How dare Ryan O'Neal even think about moving on with his life in Oliver's Story?!

Terms of Endearment
What I like about this film is that it's all over the place emotionally. One minute I'm ticked. The next I'm laughing. And then of course, when Deborah Winger expires, I'm a blathering idiot. You can watch the tears start to well up when she has her last conversation with her boys and then when Shirley MacLaine yells at the nurses about her daughters pain medication.

Endless Love
There's something about obsessive-compulsiveness in your first sexual relationship. You want that person so bad that you'll go to the ends of the earth to get him/her back. At what points do I sob? I sob when the boyfriend is forbidden to see her again. I sob when he is put into jail and the Endless Love theme song starts running (ooooh! Just got chills typing that!)

Charlotte's Web
So here we have a spider (by the way I hate spiders) who is sweet, knowledgeable, caring, and wise. She's every best friend you could ever wish to have! And then what do they do?! They let nature run its course. I can't STAND IT when Charlotte bites the big one.

Titanic
I love falling in love with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Bad boys who are really good guys...can you ever get enough of them? The answer is no. More please. When Kate lets go of Leonardo, I'm like a little baby....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! He can't be dead!!!!

My Life
My husband hates this movie. I'm not sure why. Why this movie makes me cry is because just when Michael Keaton is finally becoming "himself", he dies. And that sucks. Why do people only seem to come to terms with life just right before they die?

Steel Magnolias
There are three places in this movie where I sob. First, is when Sally Field is in the hospital room with her daughter after they unplug her. All of the males have left the room, and it's just her and Julia Roberts. The second time I cry is when she drives to Aunt Fern's house to pick up Jack Jr. When he runs toward her, I bust out in tears. The last part that makes me cry is at the funeral when the chicks are talking about Shelby.

Beaches
Sitting there on the beach, watching Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, gaze at the sunset as Barbara fades into death. Wow! What a great way to die (even if it sucks to die). Second is when Victoria's limo pulls away from the home that she's always lived in.

Here On Earth
So many people hate this movie. I like it tremendously because of Leelee Sobieski. So wise for someone so young. I do pretty good at holding it together until Chris Klein reads Birches and then whoosh!.

The Seventh Sign
There's nothing as primal as a mother wanting to give up the entire world for her child and that's exactly what Demi Moore does. Because I've struggled so much with faith AND had miscarriages, this woman's story hits very close to home. When she says, I will die for him...that's when I collapse into uncontrollable sobs (well not really - they are controllable but still....) And it just totally sucks that she doesn't get to see her little boy grow up.

So, that's it for now. Tell me what other movies will make me cry like a baby. I need to grow my PMS library.
