and so sorry I was late to read this.

What a great review - and indeed I recall all of them and a few more. You did a lot of research and this review took up a lot of your valuable time, and I appreciate it more then I can tell you. The first television show I saw was when my husband came home with a little 8" TV with rabbit ears. The program was the Lux Theater done live, and I stayed up until the channel closed for the night. Most stations shut down at 11 or 12 o'clock, and the screen showed just a test pattern after they said good night. Also most shows were live, and we were often treated to the sight of a camera man accidently caught. I remember one time when the announcer was praising a cold drink, and took a deep swallow with an appreciative smile on his face. The camera didn't get off of him in time, and we saw him spit it into a pail with a look of pure disgust on his face. Another time Betty Furness was advertising a refrigerator, and tugged away for about three minutes trying to open the door. She never suceeded in getting it open. I remember Rudy Vallee, and Wayne King among the people remembered, and Tex Ritter and Buck Jones, and Jack Armstrong, the All American Boy. I remember Fibber McGee and Mollie (one of my favorites) and Ma Perkins and Joe Penner - or course Bing Crosby and Dick Powell. I was one of the first owners of Mr. Coffee (a Christmas gift) that lasted and lasted for almost 15 years. Of course I remember most of the things connected to the war - like working in a war plant, painting my legs and adding seams to look like stockings...queing up to buy butter or coffee and using ration cards, and buying maybe two gallons of gas if you were lucky enough to have a car. We were the ones who invented car pools.

Of course I loved your review - how could I not? What young person knows about fireside chats, or Adlai Stevenson's hole in the sole of his shoe, or even the Mars invasion as narrated by Orson Wells.

Thank you a billion times. It is a pleasure to read, and a treasure to keep.

So much time has passed and I do remember most of these fads you wrote about. You were so clear in pointing them all out. I don't know if I want to read your second part. I already aged 10 or more years. @:-)

It scares me that I remember a lot of this stuff as well.....this is great, and I can't wait to see what she says when she reads it. I told her she needs to read some reviews! when I talked to her, but she has a hard time asking my brother to use his. Next time I'll send her computer with her. LOL. Thanks so much for your contribution. It means so much that you wanted to do it.
