Been there, done that...many times. (Reply to this comment)

I was stationed at Fort Davis from '92-94. I visited San Lorenzo many times the two years that I was stationed there. The view from up there was incredible. Just imagine all of the rich history that had happened over the last 4 centuries that had happened there. We used to go to Devil's Beach just outside Ft. Sherman on your way to San Lorenzo. I remember Shark Fin Reef...I wonder if it's still there? As much as I despised being stationed so far from home in a hot humid and very wet(rainy season sucked) environment, when I look back, I miss Panama. I had some great times down there and made some great friends. I've kept in touch with a friend of mine over the years after we left Panama and got out of the Army....We plan on going back...just to see how things have changed. Our old barracks have been turned into a hotel, not sure what else has changed on our old post. I would love for my wife to see and experience the beauty and fun I had in Panama.

I almost feel like I am riding on a magic carpet visiting places I have read about - and even taking a step backward in time. Great review, Jim, but that is nothing new for you.

Not that much Gary, even though the official currency of Panama is the US dollar. As anywhere else though it's not as important how much it costs to get to some isolated place as how much it's gonna cost to get back!

Loved the review. The idea of being in a fort where the surrounding are so much unchanged after 300 years. Perfect for day dreaming.
How much does a 40 minute taxi ride cost in Panama¿
I bet the Panamanian cabbies speak English better than the New Yorkers.
