I know exactly what you mean about feeling life in the walls of old buildings, Regina.

It's probably my imagination running wild after a misspent youth puffing away on dope, but those walls seem to almost speak to me about their past! I love that feeling...

Happy holidays and thanks for dropping by.

Great to hear from you Christine - nice to see you back at that keyboard lol

Of course, Bratislava isn't so far from the stamping ground of that torture master, Vlad. Just be grateful I've never visited his castle; goodness only knows what descriptions I would come up with lol

Happy holidays Michelle :o)

Sorry for the descriptions... I am often accused of providing too much information lol

Here's hoping we all have a happy and productive 2007!

Good point, Barbara - when we consider that the west ignores routine torture across the world, the lessons that history offers are simply ignored.

Happy holiday to you too - hope that your back is still on the mend!

Thank you for your comments Bettega.

The real thing about this museum is the actual building itself... if all else fails, ignore the exhibits and take a look at the grand ceilings, windows and walls!

Happy holidays to you to, my friend

Torture has clearly been much refined over the ages, but bathroom dragons seem impervious to change.

Badly laid out museums... (Reply to this comment)
by bettega
...kill all interest. =(

There is a state museum in San Marino that has some classic masterpieces, but it is badly laid out with NO explanations of the artists or their work. Unless you know baroque art cold, you will be bored.

This is sad because there are people like me who don't know that much about it, but in recent years I wanted to branch out from the typical greco roman and renaissance art. I do have an interest in things baroque now, but as good as a pathway as that museum can be, it's totally not worth it!

Happy holidays, and well written

oh I agree so much...I've seen some torture chambers in old castles and museums I've been to and they always make me shiver...what makes me cringe the most is knowing that today torture is still going on...uggg.

But I still love old places like this and enjoyed reading your review as always..

Have a wonderful holiday and a happy healthy New Year

ugh ... it makes me feel ill just reading about it. How cruel hearted humans can be, good grief.

On a cheerier note Chris, have a great holiday season and a 'very' Happy New Year !

I was particularly perturbed by sight of a contemporaneous image of a man tied upside down to a wooden bar with his legs forced apart, while a couple of jolly fellows used a two-man saw to cut the man in half from his gonads down to his neck. The display of gruesome iron facemasks and the reconstructed cells paled in comparison." Good grief! How gruesome!

Ancient buildings are fascinating to me... I love touching the walls, pillars and walk the hallways; I sense a certain life in them (spooky, eh?)!

Nice review, Chris

Happy Holidays,

Regina
