When my daughter Beanie was getting ready to fly up to Brownies from Daisies, I went online in search of the Brownie uniform she'd need for the fall as a gift to give her after her fly-up ceremony. When I saw that they still had the Brownie Beanie I loved as a little girl, I just HAD to get it for her.
::: The Beanie :::
The Brownie Beanie still has the same six-panel design you might remember from your own days in Girl Scouts. Made of a brown rayon/wool blend felt, it features a vinyl band inside, loop at the top, and the Brownie logo in blue, to match the "new" Brownie colors of brown and blue (in my day it was brown and orange). The Brownie Beanie comes in girls sizes medium and large.
::: It's Not Even Close :::
I remember my Brownie Beanie with great fondness; I went to a parochial school where we wore uniforms to school every day. The only day I got a break from the polyester blend plaid jumper was on days when I had a Brownie meeting and I could wear that uniform to school instead.
The new Brownie Beanie is flimsy, at best. The band inside doesn't do much to help the beanie hold its shape, and the felt is so flimsy that it quickly loses its shape, especially if it ends up in a little girl's drawer or at the bottom of a closet. I have my doubts about the Brownie Beanie holding up for the three years my daughter will be in Brownies.
Looks-wise, however, it's nearly identical aside from the logo color change. My daughter loves wearing it to her Brownie meetings, and since it wasn't that expensive (currently $5.75), I'll most likely replace it if this one finally does fall apart.
