Pros:Gorgeous landscaping, feels Polynesian and naturally lush.
Cons:Service at the hotel is terrible. Rooms are not luxurious.
The Bottom Line: A nice place to stay: not luxurious, not corporate, just relaxing. Just avoid the front desk.
Visitor beware!
The Hanalei Bay Resort is a beautiful property, complete with open lobby and gorgeous landscaping. You are in Hawaii and the Hanalei Bay ambiance is in keeping with Polynesian style. The lobby, lounge and restaurant is open to the trade winds. Very nice. The rooms are decent, all the views are of beautiful Hanalei Bay.
The service, however leaves much to be desired. We were there to get married and requested a king suite. The first night they mentioned that we would not be able to be furnished a King bed suite, but one with two doubles. I was not too picky so with the promise that we would be moved the very next day, we proceeded to our room. Five nights later we were in the same double bed room. Every day I called the front desk and they could not get us one. No one bothered to offer us additional services to make up for the problem. I even called the manager and he said there was nothing he could do. I was appalled. There were other instances with the front desk staff but that was the worst one.
Service is NOT GREAT. But the hotel grounds are the best part. The pool is nice. There is an open barbeque for gatherings. The restaurant is nice the the food is not so good. Unlike the Princeville hotel (which is upscale and "Las Vegas"-like), the Hanalei Bay is casual and comfortable.
We left there having had much fun but still a bit upset about the hotel experience. If you can avoid asking anything of the front desk help, you will love it.
