Powerful Graphics Editing
Written: Jul 03 '01
Pros:Numerous editing and paint tools, powerful built-in effects filters, comprehensive node editing in vector mode
Cons:Color management could be stronger, no scripting agent for repeating tasks, fullscreen edit isn't fullscreen
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent program for most photo-editing needs, and for producing graphics for the web. The less than $100 price is a pittance for such a powerful program.
This is an excellent program for editing graphics, especially photos - as well as for producing original graphics for the web. If you're producing work for print you probably need an Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw/Painter, or other product that has stronger color management and better EPS file support. There's a lot to like in this program - customize workspaces and toolbars (photo, web, effects/filters, et.al.), automatic rollup palettes (tool setting, overview, layers) - the vector graphics part of the program includes many ready to use shapes, and powerful node editing - the text dialogue box provides numerous options for fills, outline, spacing, etc.. I especially like the filter browser which provides thumbnail previews of the more than 50 built-in effects applied to the active image - a number of which are mini-programs such as the brush strokes and light effects filters. Of course you can use other third-party photoshop filters as well. Many graphics file formats are supported, with both read and write capability for most. Graphics tablet support for most tools includes variable transparency, color mixing, stroke width. There are about a thousand other features to tout in this program - pretty phenomenal given the less than $100 price.
