| dexterlab1's Full Review: Siemens Nixdorf C25 |
I bought my Siemens C25 on a spur-of-the-moment decision during a shopping spree in Hong Kong. The small package and good design made for nice eye candy. So I left the store $90 poorer but thinking that I got a good deal for this dual-band GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) phone.
When, I got back to the Philippines, I immediately enrolled this phone with my existing cellphone provider. I noticed that this phone had no composer (as compared to similarly priced Nokia 3210) but I shrugged it off saying that it must have been one feature they overlooked in this fine looking phone.
Later that same day, I tried to use its text messaging function, when I texted and the message was not sent, it returned to the former menu. I searched the phone and its manual for ways to re-send the message, it turns out that you have to enter the message menu again, look for your text and attempt to send it out again. And if the text still wont send (due to network congestion and the like), then you have to re-trace your steps all over again. --- VERY USER-UNFRIENDLY!
Pretty soon, somebody texted me, i tried but couldn't find the person's name. Since I was pretty sure the phone had caller ID, I thought the texter wasn't in my phone book. But alas, even those in my phone book were never identified coz this little bugger came bereft of any text features! It didn't have messaging ID! This is most vexing to anyone who uses SMS (short message service). Later models of Siemens phones all sport this messaging ID confirming my view that this feature is a NECCESITY and not an option.
This phone also have a weird tendency to hang especially in congested network situations. You cannot redial more than 4 or 5 times because the phone will automatically reject your call regardless of whether the network becomes available again. Signal strength is quite mediocre compared to the NOKIA phones that I use. Battery life are sound quality okay but not exceptional.
The Siemens C25 is the epitome of a phone with good looks and little else. At the same price points, the NOKIA 5120, 3210, 3310 are way better in terms of user-friendliness and features. This is the reason why SIEMENS have joined forces with SONY to produced jointly developed phones starting this year. This is an affirmation that their own attempts to compete with NOKIA is failing and failing miserably.
The Bottom Line : Do not buy this phone unless you have a strange fixation for spartan features. It is simply not a good deal for the money.
