A Family's Wishing Star
Dec 04 '02
The Bottom Line Family times are precious times. This writing comes from a time when we were all together.
When you are a family, the most simple times can be filled with love and beauty. We love to camp and spend time in the outdoors. The following was what happened when one night we decided to just set up our tent and spend the night in the back yard.
It was a beautiful night. You know the kind. The moon was shining ever so bright and the stars glistened in the sky. We lay there looking up at the wonder of it all! God's creation is so beautiful and so very amazing. Suddenly, as if out of no where, a star went shooting through the night.
Tonya: "Who saw it first? Who gets the wish?"
All at once seven voices begin shouting, "I did." "I did." "No, I did!"
Rick: "It does not really matter who saw the star first. Let's all share it. What do you wish for, what will it be---tell us just tell us and then we will see."
The first to speak was a little boy of only six years old. The wishes that he wished for would soon begin to unfold. I wish for all those children that I met when I was really sick. I wish that God would touch them the way He is touching me. I wish they all had families as wonderful as mine. That they would always be there when they go through those difficult times. I wish that they knew my Father in heaven and could trust Him like I do. I wish they knew that He loved them and that they could love Him too!
The second to speak was a younger child, he is only five. I wish for all the ones on earth the ones that are alive. I wish that they would stop and look at all the beautiful things I see. That when they look at all these things that they are as greatful, mom, as me. Do you think they know who made this earth and all the things that are in it? Or are they in the group of ones who think-----BANG! It only took a minute. I wish that they would know of all the six days that it took. Then realize that all He wants is for us to stop and take a look.
Then came little Megan, she is just but four. Daddy do you think they know what to do when God comes knocking at their door. I wish that they would know this and when He comes to them--they will open up their hearts--and not one blessing miss. (Megan has just accepted Jesus into her heart at our churches VBS a few weeks before.)
Now it was time for Austin, a little boy of two. He never goes to bed at night with out saying a prayer for you. I wish that they could see me mom, and know I am not to little to pray and have my Jesus living in my heart. I wish that they could know Him they way you taught me to, so then we can all be family---who will never ever part.
Tonya, I see that your wish has not been made. What is it that you wish for we soon all said. She told us so kindly and somber and true. When I get to be a mother, I hope I am like you. (Tonya does not live with us anymore as she is off at school and in fact planning her own wedding. This was one of those what become all to often rare and wonderful visits.)
Next time you are looking into the skies of the night. Don't let the falling star go by with out stopping to make your wish. If there are others there with you let them share in the wishes too. For the wish that they are making---may be the one that touches you.
