you put all good albums on there, but ILLmatic is hands down the greatest hip-hop released along with Illadelph Halflife and Hard To Earn!

OK I really like your pick of Black Star at 10. It is one of my favorite albums and usually don't see it on many lsits. I also like you putting Doggystyle at 9 and no higher because it is kind of overrated in my book but still one of the best ever. Okay I also like Wu Tangs album in there, so far I like this list the best of all I've read. I am not all for Midnight Marauders in the top 10. Great album, but not even best for ATCQ. Agree with the Score. Outkasts' best work is Stankonia in my opinion and Aquemini is good not great. Uh, seriously out of all Jay-Z's great works, man i guess everyman has different tastes. Agree with the Chronic. ME Against the World is the shiznit, but All Eyez is better I believe. Life After Death does not belong in the top 10 let alone number 1.

Maybe you haven't heard some of the other great albums, and your dislike of Ready to Die kinda scares me, but some of your choices are solid (blackstar, 36 chambers, tribe, outkast.)

nice list.

ive got 8 of these albums on here. only ones i havent heard are the jay z one and the blackstar album.

since im a big WU fan i wouldve put them at #1.
and id replace da chronic with the 2001 version...those beats are just incredible...makes me wanna be a producer...now if i just had lots of money...

and even tho u said no nas...i still gotta say..."NO NAS?!?!"

:-)

ps: props for the fugees making the list...that album was overshadowed by the killing me softly track on there. take that song out and that album is still great...but probably wouldnt have been as big of an album as it was.

I like a lot of the choices but this couldn't be the only list you need (though joking) because the list is too biased. However i do like most of the choices, but i still think the list is not objective enough.

all great albums that deserve acclaim and a good read but illmatic is a must in any top 10, well at least in my view.

ehh...even IF I was willing to say another one of his albums was better than Unplugged (i'm not) it DEFINITELY wouldn't be vol.1

I think it is. And here's the reason why - it's a CONSUMATE look at his talent. It's the hits but with a different spin and proving that he's capable of rapping under different circumstances.

funny you should mention reggae - my boyfriend used to spin it when he was a deeja and we have a lot of classics on vinyl and I have a small collection of my own - love the heptones, gladiators, ken boothe all that, but I do like some of the more contemporary stuff like Luciano, Sizzla (well old sizzla) and warrior king..

No it's not.

"Volume One" is the masterpiece of his catalog.

The Jay Z unplugged with "Volume One"
The Biggie Album for Nas' "Illmatic"
The Score (fugees) for Mobb Deep's "The Infamous"

Some are forgivable but not including "Illmatic" ?
That's a tragedy. No hip hop/rap list should omit a landmark album such as that.
Also, if you are going to include Jay Z, the UNPLUGGED ALBUM??? Over "Volume One" ???
That's crazy.

Damnit Butch the title stands :)

I know it's hard to narrow them down - it took me a few days to finalize my list but I feel good about it.

If not "Albums That Changed My Life," how about "My Favorites"? OK, I'll stop nitpicking now.

I think all of your picks are EXCELLENT albums - de la soul was on the edge of my list as was Nas but they got bumped...they'd definitely be in the 10-20 of MY list.

Writing around here you have to take criticism well or you'll never survive. I LOVE Souls of Mischief and honestly I was gonna include Deltron3030 on my list, again one of those albums that would show up on 10-20.

I'm not too sure bout that digable planets and the coup though - we could aruge bout that. Rest of em sound okay...thanks for the comments ;)

Well the reason they didn't hvae that title is because they didn't change my life.

I understand lyrics are the most important thing in Hip-Hop but production does play a large part of whether or not something is listenable. Who wants to listen to some isht that sounds like they made it with a fisher price recorder in an empty shower stall?

Sorry that you don't like Pac - but I think he did change the game whether you like it or not.

See, that's the great part about editorials - I get to say what I think, I'd love to see your list those - as long as ...nevamind, go ahead make a list - I'd love to see it.

Yurp #5 - few folks recognize the impact Outkast has had in allowing Southern rappers to come to the forefront, for that - they got bumped up a spot or so...thanks for stopping by.

One day Paul, when you're older and more experience like mahself - you'll realize the beauty that is unplugged. The best material, in the best setting - all killer and no filler. Yup, no Public Enemy and No NAS - maybe when I make the 10-20 list....

My two cents (Reply to this comment)
by speeddemon531
I agree with most of your list. I definitely agree that 'Life After Death" was a better album than "Ready To Die". I've also come to realize that a) "Doggystyle" was a great album not so much for Snoop's lyrics as it was for the firepower of his co-stars and Dre's excellent production, and b) "The Score" was/is probably one of the most overrated hip-hop albums of all time.

great list.

Nice List (Reply to this comment)
by dxbari
Pretty well balanced new-school list, and nicely devoid of any cringeworthy entries. Of course I'd have probably swapped a couple in, but that's why it's "epinions". I've got to side with paulyoungotti on the absence of PE (assuming he meant Public Enemy), though. I'm not sure which album he had in mind (Nation vs Fear may never be settled), but any list without Fear of a Black Planet looks a little light to me. But that might be a couple years too early for the list. I was always a little disappointed with Doggystyle considering how Snoop was near-flawless on Chronic and "Deep Cover", but it was a pretty good album and the best he ever did as a solo artist. I should read more around here...

"His music does however provide the backdrop for some of the illest rhymes ever laid on wax"

Yep, most of which are provided by the emcee you love to hate, Kurupt... haha.

Anyway, I have a few minor rants. I'm absolutely sorry, but putting Jay-Z's MTV Unplugged over Reasonable Doubt is sheer INSANITY. And how you left off Illmatic and PE?! Also, the Wu in eighth place? that's beyond me as well... lol, but I guess it's a pretty good list, though. Good stuff...
