Pros: They offer some good package deals
Cons: Your monthly bills are a total mystery
The Bottom Line: They do not see the importance in helping their customers understand and manage their calling plans, and you cannot get itemized, understandable billing without paying extra.

| linda1073's Full Review: General Reviews of Alltel Customer Service |
I guess we should have known better. We had Alltel service once before but switched. Then when we did away with cell phones for a while and found what we thought was the best deal with Alltel, we decided to give them another try. Our mistake.
We signed up for the $19.95 a month service plan, which included 150 minutes. Now let me explain to you the amout of use my phone gets. I use it frequently but do not live by it, and most of the time my calls are short and far between. And yet somehow, I kept getting bills for almost $70 a month. I just DON'T see how I could be using that much time, when I do not use the phone that much. Not that there would be any way for me to find out one way or the other, as they do not see it necessary to offer their customers an itemized, understandable statement. Sure, you can get that, if you want to pay for it. I'm sorry but I find that inexcusable. What right do they have to withhold such information from me, and then try to make me pay to get it??!! I have NEVER in my life dealt with a company that charged you for a billing statement explaining your charges in detail! I imagine this is how they make their money....I mean, who really knows WHAT I am paying for at the end of the month?? With Alltel it is just NEVER clear what you are paying for and/or getting, and I find it to be an impossible task understanding how my calling plan works.
So.... I thought that perhaps upgrading my calling plan would help. So I went to the $29.95 plan, which was supposed to double my minutes. I anxiously awaited a lower bill. What I got was a bill for over $100!!!! I was dumbfounded! HOW in the world could this be possible?? I called customer service, but that is about as helpful as asking a 4-year-old to explain physics. They gave me a long and detailed explanation as to roaming charges, airtime, daytime minutes, etc., but it didn't help. And it still didn't explain how my limited use of the phone could have possibly added an extra $75 to the bill.
In general I find Alltel to be little more than a rip-off. There is JUST no excuse for not getting detailed and itemized bills automatically, and I find it ridiculous that I cannot get better help managing my plan. I guess there must be something to the fact that Alltel has changed maanagement 3 times already. First it was Wireless One, then it was 360 Communications, now Alltel. Maybe it is a far-fetched way of reasoning, but it just seems like their service gets progressively WORSE every time they make a change. My contract is up in a month.....good riddance.
