Most of my friends are all done for the semester, but I've still got two finals to study for. Therefore, it is a perfect time for annecal to host her haiku write-off, since I am at the height of procrastination mode. I will do anything as an excuse not to study. Annecal asked that the haikus be autobiographical, so I wrote down some thoughts that sum up some events of the Fall 2002 semester for me. (I am a senior in college!! Ahh!! It's so terrifying!!) I look forward to reading other people's contributions. Leave me a comment if you've written your own haikus! My poems are mostly pretty terrible, but, hopefully, they are fun! All haikus are in 5-7-5 syllable form. Here goes... Ethan's Incredible Toilet Paper Percussion Shake a four-pack of Charmin. Sounds just like "Walk Like an Egyptian!" Not naming any names... Univited guests At least this one brought us beer Now, it's time to leave! London Calling The suburbs bore me Merry old London beckons When can I return? Cover songs found on KaZaA Dolly sings "Stairway" Wynona belts out "Freebird" What strange sacrilege! Downhill in our Kitchen We try to dance but Videos fall off the shelves This darn tilted house! My Computer The blue screen of death? Ancient three-year-old machine Don't die on me now! It's Always Something... I found a nice boy A cute Democrat, not gay But he likes the Yanks... Why is Trent Lott on B.E.T? Strom Thurmond is old I can't believe he's still here Hate keeps him alive? Instant Messenger Advice I tell friend he should play hard to get and sign off But he keeps chatting Remembering Classic Rock VH1 (frosh year nostalgia) Two glorious weeks Mar's dad in "Lawyers in Love" I'll never forget How we laughed at Pete's Mick lust and screamed when on came "Mister Roboto" Put on your Vestivus, Here Comes Festivus! Feats of strength, vodka, and airing of grievances Put your re-gifts near pole Haikus I Wrote During a Boring Class: The Professor Old professor's tie is extremely frayed and worn He ties it each day Why is it that profs wear tweed jackets with patches over the elbows? The old senile man repeats the same facts each class Tenure is lovely 3:40 PM I have got to pee I should not have drunk that tea Twenty minutes left People-Watching Boy's head nods, eyes close I smile at him when he wakes Sleep deprivation The girl next to me Is wearing the same sneakers But mine are sparkly Semi-circular This room is good for looking Which boy is cutest?
