Found On Road Dead

Pros: Umm, if you really want to stretch it, it's an American car...
Cons: Poorly crafted, defective parts, "exploding" tires, awkward driving, bad pickup.. to name a few
The Bottom Line: Avoid, go foreign or lease-- DO NOT BUY. The inflated Ford market should have burst and deflated along with its tires. This is not merely an opinion but a warning!

If it wasn't the Firestones incident that made the Ford Explorer so popular perhaps it is its durability and longevity-- pending that it does not leave the garage, ever. I too was sucked into the cesspool of SUV purchases, with a new Ford Explorer. At first, the car is fine-- many cup holders to hold your beer cans etc and the driving is "not that bad for an SUV." But just wait, two years pass and you have yourself a clunker-- which will spend more time in your local mechanic's garage than in yours. Next to my $500 '83 BMW, which has lasted and still drives rather well, I cannot tell why people buy these cars. (They are not even that cheap, I would recommend purchasing a used BMW or Nissan car than one of these jalopies-- then you have yourself a long term reliable investment) My Explorer has lost it's air conditioning, makes all sorts of sounds, creaks and moans in just about every possibly way, and has the most irritating handling.
