Radisson Suites is a Sweet Deal!

Written: Jul 06 '01 (Updated Jul 07 '01)
Pros:Every room a suite, exercise room, heated pool, great food
Cons:Can be expensive depending on the deal.
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in due to the rooms, staff, hotel services and food being superb. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it.

Once a year I travel over to New Jersey to catch the Beatlefest convention with my mother at the Meadowlands Hilton. When I go I usually stay at one of the neighboring hotels because the Hilton is too expensive for my budget. This past year I stayed at Radisson Suites, where every room is a suite. It was a great stay, wonderful service and a superb room.

Rates and Reservations

Suites at Radisson range in price from $129 to $199 a night (if they quote you anything over $199, don't except it, they will come down). The $129 rate is a "super save" rate, and is based on availability and day of stay. Usually it's easiest to get this rate on a weekday, or if you are connected with a group event. I paid $129 a night because I was attending Beatlefest and they set up group rates at that hotel. The standard rate is $179 a night for a suite, and $199 a night for a business class suite. They also have a AAA rate for members of AAA, it is $131.25 a night. If your not already getting the super-saver rate and you're a AAA member this could be a great savings.

Reservations can be made via their web site at www.radisson.com , I personally found their web site to be a bit confusing and I believe it could be a more user-friendly, but, you'll find your way to the hotel of you choice eventually. If you wish to bypass the web site you can call 1-800-333-3333 for reservations.

Rewards Program

For those of you who travel often, Radisson has a rewards program entitled "Radisson Gold Rewards". You can sign up for it at a Radisson hotel or on their web site. You collect "gold points" with each stay, and after approximately 5 nights of stays you receive one free.

Room Information

The rooms were absolutely superb. When you enter the room you have a medium sized living room, which contains a sofa bed, tables and a television set with VCR, and it was very pleasant and homey. You then enter a small alcove where you find your closet on the left and your bathroom next to that, on the other side of the alcove is the bedroom. The bedroom was nice a large with king size bed, 25" television, VCR, refrigerator, coffee maker, a work desk and a jack for your laptop. It was very well done, and I couldn't believe I was only paying $129 a night.

The fridge was well stocked with soda and liquor, but of course anything you use you must pay for. I used it to put my own sodas in that I purchased at a local supermarket. Much cheaper then there prices! The bathroom had all the necessary essentials, including a beautiful Radisson robe. Boy was I tempted to take that baby home, it was so comfy, but my conscious kicked in and I left it there where it belonged.

Hotel Services

This place had everything I could hope for. A heated indoor swimming pool, exercise facilities, massages business center, plus all the normal services you would find at a hotel. There's nothing I wanted for, and I always felt like a VIP.

Restaurant/Food Services

The food was exceptional. Every morning from 7am-10am there was a buffet breakfast served free of charge to all of the guests, it was a continental breakfast, so if you wanted something else you would have to go to the restaurant. I was happy with the free breakfast and found it all very fresh and tasty.

I did eat the restaurant for dinner and I was glad I did. Everything was just the way I wanted it, and the waiter service was excellent. I was very pleased, but the bill was a bit high. What do you expect for eating in a hotel restaurant?

Room service was the same, food was great, it had to be, it was from the same restaurant, and they were prompt and courteous with the delivery of it. I was very pleased at all of the aspects of their restaurant and food services, I'm sure you will be too.

Staff and Management

The staff in my opinion was completely on the ball. They knew who we were from check-in and handled us with the utmost courtesy and respect. I really did feel like I was some kind of VIP in the place. I often remember saying to myself in many other customer service oriented businesses "where has all the good customer service gone??" I found out, they went to Radisson!

Parking and Location

Radisson Suites Hotel of Meadowlands is located at 350 Route 3 West Secaucus, NJ 07094. It's about 5 minutes away from the Secaucus business district and 10 minutes away from Meadowlands Arena. I find the location to be very good, but not perfect. The only reason for it's imperfection is that if you are going eastbound on the expressway you have to take a very roundabout way to get to the hotel. If you’re going westbound you drive right into it from the off ramp. It's not a big deal, but can get very confusing if your not from the area, one night I spent about 20 min driving around trying to find it, even though I could see the big huge building, I couldn’t find a street leading to it. I eventually found it, and the staff was very helpful giving me an easier way next time I came from the east bound side.

The hotel provides free parking with your stay in the multi-level parking garage, this include free valet parking. Of course it is customary to tip. If you prefer not to turn your car over to valet services you have the option of parking the car yourself in the garage.

Final Thoughts

This was basically one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The expense is the only drawback of course, I usually stick to hotels that cost under $99 a night, so this one is usually out of my price range. If you can afford it though, it is definitely worth the price of the room.
